Niiiiice!

Good luck with all the PCB checking, connectors and Edac/Elco soldering/pluging/checking! I guess the "fun" part will be the first powering up... Very stressful time... And then fault seeking!

You have done an incredible job, I am so impressed! I wish you the best, you deserve it!

When was that console built? I never heard of the AMEK APC 1000 before... Looks like a big mama. Is it In-line etc?

Cheers!

Thanks,

This APC was built originally for MIT in Tokyo, there was only 12 i think ever built and i think only 2 in the states one at Hyde Street in SF and this one.

Green street in NY had a one also but I'm not sure what ever happened to it.

Its not in line , but does have 4 signal inputs pr channel and one could be used like a small fader, as a tape return, to tape send or a buss master.

It has 80 channels, 48 buss, Total recall, GML Moving faders , automation on all the switching and 19 96 point Patch bays,

I like to work with a split console so this one is perfect for me

but i still have the option to use it as a in line desk if i need to.

steve

Steve, I'm following this thread from the very beginning and I'm not the only guy here in Europe who's following your battle.

All I can say is that I have a deep respect for you, you've worked so hard and you still are. You deserve tons of succes and I hope you'll get just that.

And remember: music first! Go man!

AWESOME, Steve

Just think, pretty soon, you'll be settin' in that sweet spot, looking at your assistant and the session producer,
and going:

"Gee, felluz - I donno, wuddy YOU think?"

Keep up the great work - GO, GO , GO

FWIW, some basic Neve/ Amek data:

Rupert Neve
http://rupertneve.com/

Josh Thomas, currently Neve Sales, (Head of Amek Northestern Regional Sales for 8 Years)
512-847-2177

Amek Repairs - Martin Arthurs, LA
818-920-3294

Martin is a super knowledgeable and helpful guy - I believe his brother is the bassist in Oasis (or something along those lines), and both he and his brother look like total rock stars, although you'd never know this to talk with Martin on the phone - he's got the total British librarian voice going on.

Josh is helpful, as well - but extremely busy running the sales office at Neve, currrently.

There are QUITE a few Amek enthusiaists on this forum - Slipperman, and Kenny (of the infamous Kenny's overproduced drum sounds cds), to name a few.

So a WEALTH of information is available here on the boards, tech support, etc.

If you don't know Martin by now, Steve, I'm sure you'll run into him - he's obviously down the block from you : )

Happy cabling.

There is also Matt Syson, very, very nice guy and very knowledgeable! He is on Gearslutz.

He helped me a lot with my console and he will be the one fully overhauling it when it is installed in the new studio.

I would have been completely lost without him!

WOW!

THAT IS SOME PIECE OF WORK!

So many cards!!! Amek experts please chime in here... Since we are talking
1980s tech here, are these analog multiplexes and AD/DA converters (control not audio)? Maybe even some driver circuitry for the fader motors? Were GML fader actuators linear motors or steppers? I assume the total recall portion was a separate system.

Steve,
More than ever do I wish I was there with you. I would love to see how that think ticks. WOW!

Wow! Place is looking great! I am really enjoying the pics of the board! Such a humungous job and effort you have put in....the pay off will be...well, great music!!

Just as NeilTDeal says, "...wish I was there."

Like the others, best of luck with getting that console up and running! And I mean that in a nice way! "Hey, get that tech in here so this nice, hard workin' guy can get the music out!!"

You are doing an OUTSTANDING job! Keep up that great work!
