its been a while....

Sorry for the silencio... Other projects have taken up time with a vengeance! The studio is still far from "finished" but that doesn't mean we cant make great records in it right? Had a few sessions already, the highlight being Lonely Joe Parker who spent a couple of weeks recording what I think is one of the best things I have ever been involved in! Most of the tracking done at The Furnace with vox and some additional guitars and strings done at Abbey Road! I'll see if he'll let me put some clips up. The main thing I am really happy with is the drum sound which is FAT and the room really shines through. All the effort making a vaulted ceiling and Rysias excellent physics skills really paid off on that one.

Just going to have a look for some build pics to bring y'all up to date. No complaints from neighbors about sound and to be honest, the isolation is pretty good even though we havent added our extra layer with green glue yet!

One of the locals came and poked his head round in a session and I was worried he was going to complain... Quite the opposite.. he wouldnt leave (may have been drunk) and was loving the noise from inside. He pointed out that his dog barks at everyone that walks past and if anyone was going to complain about noise, it would be about his dog. One less thing to worry about!

Other news? erm.. a guy we recorded a few months ago was on x Factor Bulgaria... is that good?

Anyway, enough of my blah, blah... pictures

your wish is (eventually) my command.

As you will see, its all a bit makeshift in this session (in the spring) but it sounded awesome and we captured something beautiful. Everyone has seemed very inspired by the place and very relaxed.

The amount of new music being written rather than just bored musicians hanging round, getting in the way was incredible!! Based on performance so far we have accomplished what we set out to do which is have a great live room sound that is definitely OUR live room (in a good way) and create an inspiring atmosphere for musicians. Everything from here on is fine tuning and making it look a bit more pretty with paint, wood floors and GOBOs that arent sheets of plasterboard and duvets

Still a long way to go but its nice to have a place to make music again, even if we will have to keep loading out as we build more.

forgot to mention... Our good friend Charlie was around for a lot of the stud walling including the walls of the live room... but he flew back to England before we had a chance to do the vaulted ceiling so I did this on my own with some scaffolding and a bit of rope tied to my foot and a pulley to hold the other end of the beams in place. Not ideal but it worked in the end and I didn't break anything.... just

just found some more including a couple of "worts 'n' all" pics from the Lonely Joe Parker session in spring. It got pretty messy by the end as we were doing LONG days and quite a bit of beer and brandy was consumed. I just wasnt in the mood to coil cables at 4am when recording was going to start again in 5 hours... Good old fashioned recording with lots of making gear do what its not meant to do and making musicians do what they are (perhaps) too inebriated to want to do.

I had to look 1,500 miles from "home" to find this place... maybe start looking in Victoria ;-)

If we can do it, anyone can. Procrastination is the thief of time as my granddad always used to say

^haha, fairly sure that finding the space would be a lot easier in Tassie than in Victoria.

It looks like a beautiful, inspired space. That dude that said that windows have no place in a studio is a loonie and must build depressing spaces!
