| Our studio Clear Track Productions located in Clearwater, FL was designed by Wes Lachot and has been a work in progress since summer of '08. As you may already know, Wes knows how to make good sounding rooms. I don't have the specs in front of me, but IIRC the room was VERY flat all the way down to nearly 24Hz and the imaging IS retained at the back of the room. The live room also sounds even throughout. This is our roughly 2000 sq ft "Studio A" located in our 6,000 sq ft building (which also houses our Studio B, reception, storage, etc, and our soon to come video production studio). Now the fun part, the pictures.................. |

| Congratulations, Mike! You started two years after I did. How did you finish so quickly?

I'll admit it was a LOT of work to get it up the way we did. Tony Brett and his helpers are the guys who really brought to life what Wes did on the drawing board. Aside from Tony's work, I supervised the rest of the building phases every step of the way learning every square inch of the studio. Another positive was having my family (back in Connecticut) who does commercial duct for a living, so we could get that right the first time. Bottom line with our studio, Wes is a GREAT guy and very knowledgeable, and I believe we had all the right guys on his end and our end doing the job. BTW, I can't wait to see your place finished! I was there in '08 just before your first slab was poured. I regularly check your blog. Cheers, Mike

| Ummm..... Where is the construction? Or is this just an advertisement? Unless someone wants to lift the hood and show us the goodies, I can see pretty studios on magazine covers. I kind of thought the point of this forum was the process of building, not just pretty pictures when they are done. It is very satisfying to see the completed photos of a project we have been watching all the progress on for a couple years. I could photoshop myself in on top of Mount Everest, but somehow I kind of think that would miss the point of the journey. |

| Mike, Thanks for the thumbs up. The studio sounds great, and by the way, the final room response measurement was within +/- 3dB throughout the low and low-mid frequency range - within the spec of the monitors themselves! -Wes |

Perhaps Wes could better explain.... I don't want to misinterpret what's really going on in the room. But the wood is calculated to purposely reflect some of the sound which helps with the imaging throughout the room. The back of course has some very effective bass trapping going on, along with soffits. The end result is a control room that which sounds natural as opposed to "dead", and the sound is consistent wherever you are in the room. The sweet spot is as wide and far as I've ever heard.

| These are awesome.Do you have any more?I would love to see any pictures you have of all the little intricacies of the building of your studio.I think there is a lot to be learned in treads of these nature, especially for the people who cant build these places right no,but would like to know what goes into something of this nature, for future reference,or just out of curiosity. Lovely studio. Thanks Justin

| Awesome construction photos. Very interesting. What kind of property is it? Are there neighbors up/down/sides? Is the slab on the ground? Was it cut at the perimeter for isolation? I notice no floating slab or anything so you must not be concerned about the neighbors. How high is the ceiling to the hard shell? Was the whole build contracted out or did you do some of it yourself? An interesting build. Straight forward, no gimmicks, but careful attention to the details goes a long way. Thanks for the photos! It's a concrete shelled commercial building just off the beaten path of downtown Clearwater, FL. We have a park across the street one way, and other quiet businesses nearby, but not TOO near. Train tracks about 1.5 blocks away with no measurable vibrations whatsoever. The building is 6000 sq foot one story with a interior height of 12'. The finished ceiling is lower due to spring isolator grid system. The slab is a terrazzo on concrete 6" in total. On the contracting side, we did contract out initially, however, I ended up wearing that hat once we got heavy into the project. I also knew that it would be in better hands if I were to personally "make sure" every little detail is done right since I'll be dealing with this place for the rest of my life. Without getting into details, we did the electrical system the way it should be done in a studio, not to mention a lightning and surge protection system. Thanks to you and everyone for checkout out our studio thread! I'm glad to show it as I know how much fun it is to build a studio AND to see one be built! Mike | |
