Seriously incredible undertaking, I really admire this alot. I keep noticing new things as I go back through the photos to the original cad/3d. I love the ceilings and the curve and I really was blown away by the floor.

Please, Please keep us updated on how everything is going. I can't wait to see the final photos with gear, monitors and mix position.

Also keep everybody updated on the studios website and the projects you have going on out of there.

Are you the primary engineer?

Thanks!

The reception almost done. The rest of the stuff will arrive next week along with the diffusors.

Well I finally started installing the diffusors. Each diffusor is mounted onto six large screws and is slid into place. The small brown dots on the wall are the screws surrounded by small rubber pads that isolate the diffusor from the wall, while also insuring a solid fit for the diffusor. The photo in the lower right is simply the guide built to insure that all holes are drilled in the correct spots. The diffusors with the holes have 3 different colored materials behind them: Red, Creme, and Dark Blue.

diffusers and acoustics

What have you used for the diffusers? Is it wood front or MDF? I am not sure but I could spot several diameters for the drilled holes-and was wondering what size holes went in your design.
It would be interesting if you could elaborate more about the acoustic design that went in.

Great work unfolds.

Well, the equipment is installed and I have a session booked. Just have to finish a few more patch points all is complete. The vocal booth still needs a little help, and the rest of the studios are still incomplete... but at least this one is going. Here you are.

I'm in the same boat with overdrive... could you divulge some of what went into the design for those diffusers? I think those are the first panels I've ever seen that look like that... was the design largely/mostly aesthetic?

Check out Recording Architecture in London -

They use this design as the basis for most of their places - and they've done a fair few!

It would be interesting if you could elaborate more about the acoustic design that went in.

Great work unfolds.
Best explanation I found was:

" The Diffusion Panels provide efficient acoustic absorption in the low mid frequency range, while proving a degree of scattering/diffusion at higher frequencies.

The absorption characteristics of the perforated panels vary depending on the distance they are supported away from a solid boundary. The closer to the boundary, the lower the overall absorption at higher frequencies.

The panels can be mounted at an angle to the room boundaries to reduce effects such as "flutter echo".

When arrayed in groups in front of a solid, flat boundary, the diffusion effect of the panels extends to the lower mid frequencies."

Looks awesome man!
I'm a paulista myself, so maybe one day I'll come by to check it out!
I have one question if you wouldn't mind answering... How much did you invest on the whole thing?

Really nice Duffster!

I remember some years ago I was trying to make that kind of diffusor you have there with the holes. I bought a big "thing" that looked like a torture tool that you put in your drill. Then you had to hold tight so the whole panel didn't start to rotate! It was a nightmare. But I did finnish four panels before I gave up!

Keep the pictures comming!

Opened last Friday, four sessions and absolutey no problems. Getting pro tools to work took two days but everything is going great. I booked for most of October and November and I have about 5 clients visiting everyday so I am off to a good start. The inauguration BBQ is this Saturday so its some time to drink some beer finally.
I am including a picture of the first customer and recording (Edu Falaschi of Angra) done at the studio.
