After the Koch's were turned into basstraps. We went on to build some abosorbers.
Starting with these rock-pictures on canvas;

Add 5cm of Rockwool;

& put it on the wall;

Also for the smaller ones;

wich results in;

Hoping you have some new pictures.
I'm curious about your console and how the room is doing.

me2! ;-)
Well the desk has been delayed, and I have been working my a$$ of for the last weeks, so no pics, and no big upgrades. Just some tweaks and extra outboard.
Once the desk is in, I will be able to finish all wiring, and find out if I need to upgrade the acoustics any further. So far the room sounds really fine. I already did a lot of recording in the dubroom, and I mixed an album + a couple of songs with my PTHD set, with all my outboard inserted.

Hope to updaye you guys really soon!

Maybe Steffen should join for some technical details?

It's now 24 channels (will be 32), wich can be routed to:
-MixBus (Neve-type Summing/makeup)
-Delta (stereo group1)
-Echo (stereo group2)
-Foxtrot (stereo group3)
-Alpha (mono group1)
-Bravo (monogroup2)
[all groups are routed to the masterbus, can be PFL'd and have insert activation switches]

6 auxes. Aux1 is stereo send, all others are mono sends. Aux 6 has pre/post fader option. All returns are stereo.

Every channel has an insert-activation and a trim (that can be activated or deactivated. When used together you can match level with and without eq to make compare "honest" Same trick can be done with insert)
Destructive solo aka solo in place for all channels.

Big stepped monitor-volume control. 2 sets of speakers can be connected. 2 external sourches can be selected in the monitorsection.

Pfl's for all aux sends and returns

EQ's are based on old Calreq's.
4 bands. High an low can be switched to shelving. All bands have wide and narrow Q-options.
And they sound really sweet!!
Right now, I have only 8ch of them. Will be 16 pretty soon!

....all I can think of for now

archh.... the inserts add 6db to the signal....
Time for some last minute changes

Here you can also see the EQ's pretty good.
I will take more closeups later

Thanks for the console update. Sounds cool!
We are always "continuously evaluating" our console. I've been intrigued by the concept of a custom board. It's cool to see someone actually doing it.

Amazing!

Ok, forgive me. I have to ask because I am only a hobbyist and can only dream of something like this. How much did that console set you back?

I'm not trying to be rude. I just want to see how much that would set me back if I were to do that.

Thanks for humouring me.

You gotta be kidding me?

The console is amazing. Considering the price of Steffens outboard (not that its too high) I can only imagine what that console did cost you. Did you at least get a discount ?

Very nice. Im a little, very, jealous...

HI Guys, I´m busy catching up with other projects that have been on hold during the console build (lindell I hear you ;-) ) but I will try to answer questions as often as I can.

regarding the price: the partcost for the desk (excl. the argosy furniture) so far (what you see on the pics) have been around 5k EUR. the general rule in audio is appr. like "retail = 5x partcost". let me say that gie-man got a deal better than this

all inputs and inserts (except) master a subd (I really start to love this format :-) )

no automation

the mastersection is configuired to have 4 blocks of 8channels connected
so its a 32 channel console when its finished. it could be expanded further without big tweaking, but would require a power supply upgrade then.

masterbus, subgroups and fx returns are passively mixed into a neve 1290 topology using carnhill xformers.

monitor level is a 24 step elma switch

I guess there is more to tell but the soldering iron is calling.

if you guys have question feel free to ask.

steff

That console looks sweet. You'll have to give us an update after you do a mix or 2 through it.

Yes I did!!!
I'm in the middle of mixing an album on it.
So far, I am very very happy with the results.
The desk has tons of headroom (just the way I like it), and of course all the features I like (....makes sense with a custom job)
Besides that; it's also dead quiet!!! I run all my equipment on balanced power, and the noisefloor of the desk is really really low... I mean; if I don't have any hardware inserted it's almost like it's dead ;-)
My outboard has more noise/hiss.

8 more channels of EQ comming up real soon. And also the meters for the mastersection.

I already heard a few mixes from this new console - sounds really excellent - reminds me of some mixes i heard from Neve desks in the past: the mix buss doesn't choke when the mix gets full, low end stays powerful and deep, headroom for days.

I guess that's why this is gearslutz... I'm in lust.
This sounds really cool. Add one more viable method for the creation of a new desk. thumbsup
