Think Sound Studios - Greensboro, NC

Hey!

I'm Drew, 22 yrs. old, from Greensboro, NC. I've been recording out of various studios in NC for the past four years and have finally fallen into a great opportunity to setup and run my own space. I'm excited to finally be in my own environment that I can run and control. I found a great hardwood floor room about seven minutes from my house and decided to put up some walls and make it into a pretty cool, controlled studio.

I don't have much experience in acoustically treating rooms, so I had a fellow engineer who is obsessed over that stuff and has designed multiple rooms lend a helping hand in the plans for treatment. The landlord already went ahead and cut out the window for a vocal booth that was just a closet outside of this room beforehand. That was something that worked out very well!

I know this studio may not be as big or sweet as some of the other construction threads, but I figured I'd post this stuff up anyway!

Soooooo, let the pictures begin!...

Here's pics from inside the main room that, after construction, will be the live/drum room and the control room. It will also have a small storage space.

yep! rise manages me now, which has been awesome so far!

we ended up building the bass traps for the control and live room out of whitewood (pic below) and dropped mineral wool 2x4x2 pieces stacked in twos into the whitewood frames. Then, we wrapped them in a breathable cloth and are in the process of hanging them.

then we took one 2x4x2 of the mineral wool and made them into a mix cloud and drum cloud. (no pics yet of that... :-/)

we ended up painting the control a firmer mint/earth green to go with the hardwood floors and certain walls the original cream to give it an offset. in the drum room we went with a more grey green to offset the color scheme a tad.

then we assembled the new studio desk! now i'm just waiting to finish wrapping and hanging the bass traps and get the new computer in! (tuesday). i should have my photographer in the new studio by a week from today and i'll be posting final pictures!

thanks!
drew

thanks everyone! i'm super excited!

i'm planning to be up and running this Friday haha. it's a super fast process because i have so many projects i can't afford any real downtime (which is definitely a good thing!) but yeah, i will be moving in over this week with the small stuff and then Friday I believe will be my first session in the new space. stoked!

i didn't really have to buy any new stuff other than the desk and a computer. I run UAD-1 (PCI version) so I got the fastest Apple G5 w/PCI slots I could find.

hey man, the live room is basically a 10.5x11. its the perfect size for fitting in a nice size drum kit, having room to walk around with all the stands, and store other drums in there too. i LOVE the way it sounds. i'll put up some clips soon of them!

im pretty happy thus far. i just got it and already had a little problem with the racks, but they seem to be working fine now. the guy at guitar center dropped it so the front right end is kinda cracked, but nothing that affects anything and they took off $20 so whatever there haha.

Extremely clean - good job! I like the picture where you speak in the phone. It looks busy in a good way. Keep it up. Love to see some session shots soon.
