Stil Got Time To Remake The Scetches! HELP ME :D-img_0038.jpg

Heelllloooo!

I've moved, and it's time to build up a new studio!

I'm only working with comercial dance and electronic music, so i've got two needs.

1. Control Room
2. Vocal Booth

And they are both gonna be placed in the same room! i Only want it to be accoustic correct, don't care if the birds, deers and cats outside hear me!

So, i tried out Sketchup yesterday and tried to make it how i think the best solution would be! I'm a total newbie with the program, so please be patient with potential errors and mistakes

The entrance to the vocal booth should be a Door.. but it was hard to make it in sketchup

The floors will have wall to wall fitted carpet.

Now i have pulled down all walls, floors and everything is down to the surface!

Room Dimensions are: L=4.2m, D=3,4m, H=2,15m

Should i do some something different in design?
Any suggestions?

I would really like some help, cause i don't want to make it again later on

THANKS!!

Timmie

Ps. In the Wall Construction Images i have typed "plasterboards" It means Dry-Wall

You could still use the foam for the RFZ, but building these absorbers on stands gives the posibility to take them from the regular RFZ position and place them around the singer and mike (like in this picture) - here's your "vocal booth". When the recording session is over get them back to RFZ position.
Don't forget the ceiling - over the listening position and the "vocal booth".

+1..I know a BOOTH is supposed to be a main thing a a studio but I would not waste the room..I made some gobos and record vox. right in the middle of the room and it sounds good!!! IMO

Sorry if i'm slow.. but i'm not familiar with the word RFZ?

So you think it would be better with STANDS instead of a Booth? Is that because of the control room listening, or is it because of the vocal recordings?

I've been thinking about stands, but i had a small vocal booth in my other studio, and everybody is building a booth, i thought that was the best suggestion!? I wanna have a pretty "dead" room..

Thanks for your advices! Love to hear more

All the best

Timmie

In the picture from the link you showed there are no STANDS behind, no rug, and nothing in the ceiling, only infront of the mic. When i'm reading about acoustics it's all about behind you, on the floor, and on the ceiling. The front part is important, but not as important as the other factors?

In front of mic it's enough with this one: Emusic

am i right or out fishing?

I made 2 new sketches!

Is it something like this you had in mind?

You have to imagine the foam in the ceiling and a wall to wall carpet as well!

Thanks!!

there is floor to ceiling bass traps in every corner? Maybe it's hard to see in the new sketches! you mean in the front where the monitors and desk is right?
Or do you mean in the "portable vocal booth"?

Thank you very much for your help victor!

looks much better now. victor (rolanded?) already guided you to the right direction.

You will also need some RFZ absorbers at the celling.
Do you already own theses foam traps?
cheers

I would build my own bass traps out of Rockwool or what ever the equivalent is where you are at. That foam is really expensive and not that effective from what I understand.

Your second design works, just don't use the foam research "superchunck" style traps and read a bunch on properly acoustically treating your room. Then you could probably even get away without using the gobos.

So my suggestions are to ditch the foam and get real acoustic(if you DIY it, it's cheaper than the foam and works tons better) and read up on the properally treating the room acoustically. It will be worth it in the end.

P.S.

In Sketchup they have a carpet texture in the Bucket tool. I love Sketchup it really helps to visualize the plan.

Thank you SOO much guys! You really helped me out :D

Yeah, i've been thinking about making own bassabsorbers with rockwool! Even make my own "frames" with rockwool AND foam!

I haven't bought anything yet! just the bolts and platon for the walls! And the floor! Don't know the english word for the floor plates just standard boards!

When the room is built with walls and floor, i'm gonna do some more research on different products in foam, rockwool etc etc.

What i've heard so far from different sources is that if i'm gonna buy foam, i'm gonna buy expensive foam! Auralex and Vicoustics!

I'm not a millionare, but i will do it RIGHT, no redos later

I'm all open for more advices and tricks

THANK YOU! :D

a new question

I'm now about to buy the double plasterboards (drywalls)

And the question is.. if i don't care about soundproofing, i only want it to be accousticly right, is it neccecary with double drywalls?

I'm searching and searching on the forum and on the net, and it seems like the only benefit from using double drywalls is the soundproofing?

Should i use only ONE layer of drywalls?

Quick answers, i'm about to buy them today :D

Thanks!!

If you don't care so much about soundproofing then go with 1 layer. It should also make the room sound better by letting low frequencies pass through the walls instead of being bounced back. They'll still bounce back though. Get as many bass traps in as possible since it's a smaller room. Don't waste your money on foam and go with Rockwool. Don't forget about your wall/ceiling and wall/floor corners. There's actually 12 corners in your room. Also covering your back wall with some thick absorption (at least 6") will help a lot!

Hey!

Thanks alot! Then i can use the other drywalls i bought to the movieroom i'm building And yes! There will be a rockwool lookalike in the walls and rockwool lookalike to the basstraps!

We don't have alot of rockwool here in sweden, not with the density needed, so i'm going with another brand, but still with the density 50KG/M2

Thanks!!!

Ofcourse i will I will measure up exactly where every piece of acoustic material will be! But that's next step! I need to learn how to measure the room right, so it will be perfect! Or atleast the nearest perfect i can come!

Thanx for your reply! :D

HELP!!

While i'm building i'm hearing this weird sound when i clap my hands!

It sounds like i'm in a plastic pipe and claping my hands!
Why is that? Is it a normal reflection between roof and floor?

I have an audiosample! Please listen and help me!!

All the best!

This is how it looks when the sound is appearing!

Is it normal when the room is all empty? Or is there something terribly wrong?

Please Help!

I would guess that it is echo flutter caused by the concrete floor, the lack of doors to stop the CLAP from bouncing ROUND THE WHOLE PLACE... I think that will disappear after laying carpet!!.

There will be clouds in the ceiling and a wall to wall carpet on the floor! why is it a bad idea to carpeting the whole floor victor?

Most of the sound disapeared when the drywalls came up! I was extremly nervous for a while, so i just had to run upstairs and post the sound here for your expertise

Thank you SOO much for your replys.. you guys are the best!
