Thanks. Its a Soundcraft Spirit Studio 16x8x2. Picked for $225! spent the day taking all the knobs and buttons off and gave her a good bath.

we have a 16x2x2 spirit live at the club i work at. can't speak much to the critical sonics of the mixer, as it is a punk rock club, but i really do like the headroom on the pres.

i've had that thing open on numerious occasions to get the smoke out. not fun removing hundreds of nutted pots.

If you don't mind, where are you at cost-wise, roughly speaking?
And whats the overall footage down there?

I'll be moving to Rockford and setting up in a 1300 sq ft. basement...
If I could pull off some of your moves I'd be in heaven...

Are those amp iso's? If so, I'm hoping your adding a bit more mass, particularly to the tops.

Nice space though, congrats!

Cost? hmmm... we have a receipt collection but i havent tallied everything up. I can tell you that most of the material we have used has come from demo sites, un-used material from other projects and craigslist.

We scored the 2 pieces of glass from a local glass company who had them sitting around and no use for them. we paid $100 bucks for both of them.

The floor in the studio was our most expensive item so far. ~$900.00.

Good luck with your move. Rockford has a pretty big scene right now.

Actually, those iso boxes are stealth . We have rockwool and scrap drywall between each box and the outer layers. We still have to treat the inside (carpet, foam, etc..) and the counter top is not in yet. Thanks for the complement.

More to come!

Are they sharing a couple walls? It's hard to tell in the photo. I hope not, though. Flanking like a mofo up in there if so.

Either way the space looks really nice. Good work!

We were going to float the boxes off the wall but elected not to for various reasons. Im not too worried about it

We'll see what happens

Would one of the reasons be to isolate the boxes from each other? I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything, I'm genuinely interested in what your reasoning was. You could have spaced the boxes 1/8" apart from the wall and each other and gotten 15dB (picked that number out of the air) more isolation from each other. I suppose isolation from the outside is more important than between each other, but it seems worth it to me. I'm just curious.

Right. if we floated them off the wall there would be less material contacting each other and carrying vibrations.

These boxes will probably be used for first take and base track recording. Im a big fan of "open air" when recording amps. The biggest reasoning behind the ISO cabs was to keep the guitars off the drum mics. DI could do the same thing but I think this gives me more flexability.. who knows, a take in these boxes could be just fine and i wouldnt lose the "liveness" like you do with a DI (imo)

We were sampling paint. Found one we like and the painter should be here this week.

In the mean time, we picked up a project recording violin samples. We put the performer in the unfinished "b" room. So far so good.

Its been a long while since I've posted here.

Heres a few more pics.

We still 2000 more feet of mic cable to run

As you can see we still have carpet to install, treatments to hang, finish off the amp closets, put the connection trims in...
