Hey, whats the final size of the booth going to be? looks like you on the right path, are you creating a double walled construction?

Cheers

no double stud wall, i figured that would be too much overkill for just vocals and small amps. i didnt have enough room too. theres a bar to the right that you can't see and if i made it any bigger you REALLY have to suck it in to walk by.

also alot of research i did shows that its more about whats INSIDE the booth, such as a large bass trap on the wall behind the singer and proper absorbtion on the walls and ceiling. however i will be doing double 5/8 drywall on the outside with green glue, and i think just a single layer on the inside, because of what ive read the double drywall will keep it quieter in the control room but double dry wall inside the booth will cause more reflections (a single layer will allow the sound waves to go through the inside wall easier ) nessecitating in more treatment on the inside "phew" that was a mouthfull.

this is kinda my "practice" room before i go build my real studio in my dads basement.

btw once its done it will be 5 x 5'6" x 7'4" plenty of room for me, a guitar, and a mic stand or two or a small or large amp, i'm pretty sure i could fit 3 people around for omni vocals if i needed.

i got 3 walls up, just need to go to rona for some more lumber for the wall with the door and window. STARTING TO LOOK LIKE SOMETHING!!

i stood inside it with my guitar and ITS HUGE! i was a little worried when i had just the floor done it looked kinda small, lucky me.

Page and Plant are helping me design it, and encouraging me whilst i build!

im in edmonton.

for airflow, yes, so far i think so. im gonna get a small wall mount fan and make an intake return system. maybe,... if it doesnt cost to much.
similar to the vocalbooth.com system

finally...

so i finally got some $$$ saved for drywall supplies. stuffed the walls with 4" Roxul Safe'N'Sound mineral wool.I ditched the wall plates idea and ran a 2" PVC pipe about a foot long elbowing inside the wall that i could fish cable through and stuff with something.

i also ran a small piece of pipe through the back wall so i had a hole that lined up with an existing plug that i pushed the booth up against with a power bar ran through it, no wiring or lighting needed, i can just plug a lamp and amps into the power bar.

now i just have to prep and hang my door. i went to a used construction supply warehouse and got about a hundred pound solid core door for $25

i just have to cut a hole and install a window, hang it, and then start working on the absorption panels for the inside.

i need it as an amp booth also, and i've heard it both ways, sometimes its "dont bother" with one if its that size but i've had personal experience recording at some studios where i live and at one of them the vocal booth was in a 3' by 5' hallway "airlock" connecting the control room and the live room and the vocals were amazingly clear and in your face and the studio is the top post studio here in town. i checked the vocalbooth.com site and other DIY booth sites and they seem to think a 4x6 room is allright. mines 5 x 5'6" . and thats all the space i had.

That airlock is probably non- parallel though right?

Small parallel walls = lots of modal interaction in 200-500 hz. . . unless you have a good 8 or more inches of 703

i have 4 panels that are corner traps....they are 6.5' x 14", the have 12 inch thick R-30 in them...

then i have 4 panels on the walls, they are 36" x 14" with the same R-30...

my celing has basic 1 inch foam, with material covering it...

my booth also has 4 inch foam strip on last wall to level out the highs...
