| Gear nut | Hi all ![]() This being my first post, I thought i'd wait till it was really worth something, and so here goes... Building my first "commercial" studios! I've been recording music for about 12 years now professionally in my various home studios, and have found a way to expand finally (not too big) and am wanting to share in the joy of this building process with all of you ! I'll post pics as we go, I also waited for wetworks, etc, to be done so I can kickstart the pics nicely Our plan is to be ready by Jan 2009. We're based in Sunny Africa (Cape Town - South Africa) and have a great view of "table mountain" from our new studios, so here goes.... Pics on their way!Wayne Joshua |

| Gear nut | If you're wondering about the restuarant in the building, it's gonna be an interesting concept! We thought we'd combine recording studios with a restuarant.... Yes, sounded ridiculous to me when I first heard it (my partner Marcel) but I think we might be onto something? A place where people can actually go and meet in town, have a drink & some good food and watch a recording session being done or a live studio performance for that matter, of some well known artists and bands. Obviously when in more low key sessions, the blinds can come down and the studio & restaurant will seperate. Or for more private sessions of coarse. The plan is to soundproof the two completely from one another, and have HD screens in every room in the building, with camera's for the downstairs area as well as upstairs, so all can see the happenings of both areas. I will have switches and routing in the main control room, if I desire to turn off studio & booth camera's and re-route something like VH1 for that particular session. Here's some pics of the building still untouched... |

| Gear nut | So building commenced! Here bashing out doors to drum booth, and control room glass frame etc, got to get all wetworks complete, the dust is everywhere... The control room will be a slightly higher level than the Vox/Amp booths & drum room... Feels quite 70's ... I like* |

| Gear nut | More here of foor slicing between rooms (vox booth) and (drum booth)... |

| Gear nut | The walls getting erected, spaced away and to be filled with rockwool, on floating floors, no touching external room, the usual type of thing, pity this place isnt a bit bigger, but maybe better to start a bit smaller and expand later by building bigger rooms downstairs who knows... |

| Gear nut | Running Snake (16 Channels in each booth) plus "returns for headphones" also running HDMI for flat panel in each booth, to reflect protools screens for voice artists, and video for visual, even fitting camera's for extra visuals downstairs so people can view sessions!! Exciting stuff... will post most pics to date, then will follow up with finishes... Wayne Josuha - |

| Man what a great concept! You know that feeling you get when you have been tracking a great band and realize that you are the only one that will ever hear that particular performance in that moment? Now you can share that with your restaraunt clientele! I wish you great success!

| Gear nut | Finishes on their way... Ok, so, back to posting, we have been crazy busy here and all is coming together nicely. Its amazing how I've always read about budgets and how you should double whatever you start off with..... Well I recommend you quadruple that, and then some.. Unless you have serious to the point planning, it is endless :( Anyway, things are starting to rock and hopefully we'll be able to pay it all back with some interesting work on the horizon, whew.... Rock on you darling gearslutz! ![]() |

| Gear nut | More floors!! some more for your perusal... |
| | |

| Gear nut | Finishes and Gear coming in!!! Bringing all the gear in , and starting acoustication, and diffusion for the next while. there's a bit of a bass node in the control room, so we're making bass traps by droping the front of the room, and using rockwool to fill certain spaces, constantly re-doing room analysis, to get nice acoustics... Check it out.. |
