Hey Trev

I just came back from recording in an old German bunker in Paris with 6 foot walls, but it didn't seem as sturdy as your place will be

Looks like you're making great progress.

Today I bought a new camera!

Here's a few pictures of the apex of the roof. The first one is looking straight across from the other side of the room:

The second looks back from the same position:

And the third looks forward:

This one is from the booth:

May I asked the name of the studio? Im trying to map every recording studio and GS'ers in Paris from semi-pro to the bigger studio's.

And to the Topicstarter. HELL it looks great! Can't wait to see the finishing photo's!

Dry-walling (or should I call it dry-roofing) begins with battons being screwed into the concrete beams. You can see that strips of rockwool are being placed on the returns and held in place by the batons:

Here's a shot from across the room:

And another from the control room:

Here's a couple of pics from yesterday. Here you can see the window cavity taking shape from the mix position:

And this one is from the machine room:

No interesting news today. More wooden batons being put up on the ceiling does not a sexy photo make.

Most of this week was taken up batoning the ceiling:

The window and door cavities also appeared:

And here's another from a different angle:

Gotta say it's starting to feel like it could all come together quite quickly at this point. Fingers crossed then...!

I really like the ceiling design- lots of diffusion going on there - nice idea with the strips of rockwool for staggered absorbtion too..

Good work.

More roofbatons - sorry, it must be getting dull now - this time (excitingly) with rockwool inserts:

And the first delivery of plasterboard/drywall arrives:

More photos tomorrow!

Nice one. Hoping to re-open in about 4 weeks though I already have a few bookings stacked up at this point. Be aware the new control room won't be done by then (or indeed even started) so I'll be working out of the old one (which will ultimately become a lounge)! Drop by for a beer sometime and we can discuss!

Finally, the walls are complete:

The first run of plasterboard/drywall is up on the ceiling:

...and isobooth 1 makes its first fleeting appearance:

Thought you'd like a close up of the plasterboarding/drywall. This picture is a cross section of the ceiling so far (wooden batons screwed to concrete, 30mm dense rockwool slab between each baton, 19mm plasterboard screwed to batons - it'll be finished off by a 15mm layer of plasterboard green-glued to the layer you can see here:

Yep, agree with you! Height is definitely one of the most important factors and IMO what separates the real studios from the wannabes (flame suit on! - I'm sorry you cannot claim "acoustical excellence," "beautiful drum room," "professional facility" etc. with an 8-10ft ceiling - no offense to anyone with a low ceiling!).

Rimskidog, we're all so excited for you! Place is starting to look great!

By the way, what's the height of your tracking room, don't remember seeing it in the thread.

Thanks for the support man!

It varies from approx 14 feet at the low point to 17ft at the high point.

Bad news today. The aircon guys came down to do a site survey. For a number of reasons (a higher spec unit that we'd planned and some bespoke fabrication they are gonna have to do) the live room units will cost about 40% more than we'd budgeted for. It's also gonna take up some of the space that we were thinking about putting a small chamber into. Oh well...

Well Trev, I guess we had to expect at least one more set back!

Nonetheless, when it's all fiished you'll be satisfied to know it was done right. Keep hanging in there!

Well, now it'll definitely be the coolest place in town.

Anyway, one of these days shoot me a PM with info on when you'll be definitely open and available for some drum-smashing. From everything you've told me it'll be worth the hike out of London...
