Ok cool, when said splitters i meant the normal a/c

Make sure the control has one phase on its own clean, since you have a designer it ok, has he build any studios before yours?

I dont have a clue about the HVAC but for running live+ lights u dont need 100A.(same for the control room...actually even less)
I had big festival PA systems running on 64A in the UK and the needle never exceeded 32A
but I guess it is great to be generous when you can

I agree, it is just that 3x68A means that you overload the HVAC phase with the risk of power cut or even fire. So the HVAC determines the minimum phase, otherwise you split the HVAC in two phases and it becomes tricky and undesirable. My HVAC units need about 35A on the start (then they need less) so 70A minimum (i dont start them at the same time) but as you said more is better just incase

Nothing substantial happened this week (sadly).

Here's one which should give you more of an idea of the internal height. Bear in mind this is one of the lowest points of the room.

Sadly, there's little to report again this week. The contractors finally returned from their impromptu 'holiday' on Thursday in order to take delivery of the roof panels for the live room. The roof panels duly arrived at 07:30 as expected... without a crane to unload them. Excellent. Two hours later when the driver's cellphone battery ran out, he decided there was no point staying and took the roof beams back whence they came. Fantastic. The supllier has since called and said 'oops'. They are now going to redeliver Monday, hopefully this time with a crane to unload them...

In the meantime the sparky has been in all week. Live room cabling is all now laid ready for the dry-lining to be done.

Hopefully I'll get some photos of the appearance of my roof up for you next week!

How did you guys decide to manage the design and routing of the air conditioning? This always interests me with studio builds. I don't think you've mentioned it, but forgive me if you have.

If you look on the design plan you'll see the 'air in' chimney on the bottom right of the live room and 'air out' on the top left of it. There are also a number of pics of the chimneys during the build up to this point..

Thanks! I thought I saw the "out" vent in the design, but totally overlooked the chimney.

Trev, are you sure you aren't lopsiding the planet with all that weight? I know the english pride themselves on their contribution to "heavy metal," but really...

Holy crap.

And beams are finally moved into place... First is into that corner where the electric cabling enters the room:

Then a view across the room:

(The red gunk you can see between the beams is just a silicon sealant.)

And in the other direction:

And one from below:

And finally for today, you can see in these shots how we are backfilling the gaps between the beams with a concrete screed both for structural integrity and to ensure there are no nasty little gaps for sound to get in/out:

Work today was on getting blockwork up to full height. It;s pretty much there now but I forgot to take camera down today. Pics to follow.

Hoping to have the roof complete by about next Wednesday and for drywalling to start right away. Watch this space!

Bit of a surprise today... I went down to the studio to pootle around a bit and found the builder there throwing up roof beams like there's no tomorrow. They said I looked so dejected about how long it was taking that they thought they'd surprise me! Top guys! Anyway, here's a few from today:-

You can see three beams lined up to move in while they mortar the gaps in this one:

Same thing here:

On this one you can see the next beam being moved into place:

The final one for today gives some perspective on height (the board his foot is on is 9ft high);

Hope someone (except me) is finding this interesting! More next week!

Good news and bad news:

The good first, roof beams are pretty much finished and rock-wooling and dry-walling has begun. Bad news, I've lost my camera. Doh!
