I would definitely like to be a fly on the wall in your studio this week with all of the progress that has been made! It would be fun to watch all of you in the zone.

Well, we're up and running. It took a few 22 hour days to get it all done and I was completely beat, but the workshop is on (sorry for the blurry picture) and the room sounds awesome and I finally got some sleep today. We are still missing trim and other small stuff as well as the table for the console etc., but the electronics are all working, no hum, no buzz. The tracking room is still in it's "virgin" state, needs floor and painting, but the drums sound awesome in there and I am contemplating leaving it acoustically the way it is right now, sounds massively big.

Looks like we got lucky

That is a INDUSTRIAL AMPS - Rock 120. Love that thing, very big sounding amp, closest sound I've heard to the original STRAMP amps I used to build in the 70s.

Looks very nice!

Can you give us an indication how much it costs to build a studio like this? (excluding equipment)

I am thinking about building one myself in a year or two and I am working on a budget at the moment.

Threads like this are a great help
Thanks

Hard to say. It all depends on how deep you want to get into it. It can be anywhere from $100,000 to infinity. Whatever you do, once you have a budget worked out, triple it and you will get almost close to the real cost.

That doesn't sound very encouraging, on the other end thanks for the warning.
I plan to spend most of my budget on the building itself.
I guess it is easier to add some equipment over the years, than to remodel the rooms.

I don't know yet if I will construct it from the ground up, like you did, or if I'll fit it into an existing building.
Depends on what I'll find, and on my budget...

That is Rory Gallagher playing a STRAMP amp I built in 1973. Those are the amps I was referring to when talking abut the Industrial Amp in a previous post.

I actually jammed with him a few times and he let me play that guitar in the picture. The strings were almost an inch above the fretboard at the end of the neck and I hard a hard time getting a clean chord out of it but he kicked ass on that guitar, also playing a lot of slide. Rory was one of my fav guitar players at that time. The picture is in the current issue of Premier Guitar magazine.

I don't see any empty rack space. Do you have plans for another rack? Or have you adopted the "nothing new unless I get rid of something" plan for self-control?

I left empty spaces in strategic correct places, where I expect growth to happen, as in: right next to the Bricasti, next to the Chandler Germanium compressor, the Chandler TG2 and the Chandler Germanium EQ. There is also an almost empty 500 rack (except for the Little Devils) that might see a few new compressors and EQs over time.

Everything seems to be working fine. Now if i could only figure out how to get those big racks all the way back into the corner. There is just too much cable behind it to fit, oh well...
