| I built a desk. I had been looking for a killer desk online for my gear and they were either over priced or just lame, I needed something that if a car fell on it, people would worry about the car. So my friend and I decided to build a desk. I should have taken more pictures during the process but.... well I was working. We built the entire frame from square steel tubing, 3/8ths I believe. We went with the proper form of connecting steel, Bolts? Nah, we welded it! We started by building a standard box desk frame and added supports. and what would become the rack spaces.... ![]() Grind off that slag!!! ![]() Below is a decent look at how we setup the racks to float over the desktop... ![]() Heres a shot with the racks in place and the CD tray, it does not move, but it will not break. Also at this point we had cut the MDF For the MAC bay, the Keyboard tray, the desktop and the riser top. ![]() Together at Last! ![]() Few coast of paint and some gear later...... ![]() I have done more work from this point, hidden wires built some stands to put the monitors you see on it now on as ref than my mix monitors are on the desk. I decided to leave the MDF wood un painted and I love it.. has a smooth feel and a great used look. Hope you guys enjoyed and maybe got some inspiration. I was tired of working off of a wal mart computer desk. Thanks for looking!!!

I did the same! I went to B and H photo and copied a $2000 desk and built two! Cost $200 each and I used rare hardwoods (veneers) I also did a stress test of 400 pounds in the center of each desk, metal bottoms. In the end I decided for speaker stands and not the top extra space. I will in the end go for 2x22inch wall mounted flat panels when I move into my permanent home not this lame apartment. Notice the fine wood grain? It looks well, kick ass amazing in real life. Nice work on yours BTW! Similar to mine minus the tops, thought about the tops but wanted to go with under the desk racks for outboard gear, speaker stands and wall mounted screens. Amazing Ba nd H publishes the dimensions on the web site huh? Also the B and H desk is not modular like mind and its press board and about 400 pounds!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
