yep, neigbours around .....

well you haven't heard my kids !!!!!

well all is solid-concrete ... I was also affraid off to much noise .. specially if you're working on the actual mastering for 3 to 4 days a week ... un-attended you can work at around 80-85 SPL dB level ... sometimes a bit louder ... and when you've got the right feel for the album/tracks you can go even lower... when running/working at that level .. it's all very acceptable. Sometimes pushing it loud for 15 sec. .. just the feel off the club ... to check the punch/balance ..

good contact ... and having the neighbours in at our childrens birthday .. showing them the room helps a lot ..

I did my best to isolate the low-freq .. by using a free floating floor on rubber, lot's off different layers wood .. the floor is free from the walls ... walls are the best I could do ... considering the budget and the house has to be able to sell, if things go well ...

I don't master in the evenings ... just normal days from 9:30 till 17:00 ... so not in the evenings ..

the isolation is pretty good .... I did not go to them with ans SPL meter ... but they don't complain ... I'm lucky both neigbours are nice people ...

business-wise/model/evolution will be ... sticking here for about 1,5 to 2 years .. building the client network ... then moving up to a new house with a separate building/masteringroom

Thanks for the reply.

Perhaps even better (if you had to stay in a place with neighbours) would be a complete room in a room. I'll have to look into that

I'm happy it's working out for you. Good luck with the mastering

Thanks Jimmy ... well Hilversum is not that far .... so you could check it out if you like .... just come in for a cup off coffee ...

room is changing slowly .. doing the last small things which takes ages off time ...
hope to get a pro-fotographer in to make the new images for the new web ...
but to busy with mastering to think about that .. ( first the accoustics .. but slowly )

The second album I did in the new room ( was not even finished ) ( RAP ) got already nominated by a majorn national television compagny ( bnn-urban awards )for the best independent Mixtape ... s*t we did not win ... but again .. not bad for business ...

Also the album form Mostar Sevdah Reunion I did ( first one in the new room ) is getting great reviews and is released world-wide ... but it was a hard time finishing that album because I was a bit lost in the room at that moment ..

I'm having a great time, and enjoy working in the new room massivly .... just finshed a nice USA singer/songwiter with W. Guthrie songs with only vocals/acc.guitar and mandolyne ... enjoyed ..

It looks very very good Wim, your work should be deserved!

You're the inspiration for me. First time when I've bought SMC 2B and now I'm going to take some positive vibes from those pictures, because I'm going to build my final mastering room....hopefuly it will happen next year

skylines are up

woops .. found some time to put them above the mastering-console ...
it's scarry to work close to the B&W 800 ... sometimes I dream about getting them damaged while doing some building in that room ..
so far so good ......

Again, this build is really magnificent.

Wim, do you mind telling me where you got the granite (?) blocks underneath your speakers and the Levinson? They look really good!

HI Glam,

the stones come from a normal stone/marble-shop .... .. they're 60 x 60m cm and about 3 cm thick ...

BIG garden-centres also have some stones ... the stones are from belgium .. pretty heavy .. at some stoneshops you even can get you're own or different sizes cut ...

added some "newer pictures" and added some accoustic treament at the back-side walls and changed the place off the equipment to stay more in the sweetspot while working ... that is not in the pictures ...
cheers enjoy ...

Glam, are you doing some changes / building yourself ??????

Hey Wim,

I think you're new build looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks for being so forthcoming and answering questions!

In reply to your question, I find your setup very interesting as I have been considering my current studio setup for something more ergonomic and acoustically friendly.

I'm running PMC satellites with their active sub, so was thinking it might be a good idea to isolate them from the room by investing in some marble slabs to put underneath. Does marble work best, or is granite better?

I've been looking at buying a Sterling Modular console, can you comment on the build quality/any impressions? Is that the African Rosewood ('Biubinga') wood trim on your desk? Looks brilliant. I'm actually doing something a little peculiar with my studio; it is primarily a composition/small tracking studio, but I am building it (slowly but surely) around a mastering hardware setup in order to get the best possible results in my work.

How do you find your IBIS? I got mine about a month ago, and absolutely adore it. Also running an STC-8 over here, plus the Flamingo pre, Avocet etc. I adore Cranesong gear! Looking to get a HEDD in the not too distant future...

all best,

Glam

Hi Glam, most important is the weight, just how heavy the stone is .. so the kind off stone is not that important, just make sure it's heavy and good looking, granite would be nice also .. ( I'm not that much into high-end audio, you could find more info on speaker isolation I guess )

the reason off getting the console from sterling was that I did not have the place or time to build something myself ... but I'm glad I did get the c-console ... the quality is good, the connections work like ikea only more high qualitiy metal bolds etc. etc. it's expandable in the same style ... good access to all components and free to move around and from left to right with you're chair ..

I'll have some foto's on getting the console fixed ...

it was fun to see how it got here by using de fedex tracking-number .... ( in three days ... from the factory to NY kennedy airport - Paris Airport - Amsterdam - airport .. just in three days it was at my doorstep .... well aranged by dangerous-music from germany

No more Ibis , I changed to maselec mea-2, I wanted a high-end mastering EQ with larger controls and just a straight-forward EQ design ... no color options etc etc. Still Having the weiss en the NSEQ-2 .. which is okay for now ... liked the IBIS , had it for 8 weeks or more ... pretty modern sounding EQ ... all options ... sometimes the MEA-2 is a bit limited with the 4 bands per channel ...

Hi guys........ long time haven't visited GS, I've had a lot of work. I should probably enter my own rebuild thread, but I didn't make so much photos during the work..... so I decided to add my 2 cents here.

Room 7,6 x 4 x 2,9 meters (not so good but I haven't got another option)

Working time - 3-4 months.... I've made everything by myself, including tons of bass traps etc....

Costs......... difficult to say :)))

I just was too nervous and busy for taking photos.....
We've just moved to new house and there was EVERTYTHING ready inside, kitchen for my wife, bathrooms etc... everything except of my studio.
We've spend almost all money for moving, and technically it was a miracle that it finally worked out ;)
Yeah more photos should be nice...
