I have new project coming in which will involve recording some ethnic instruments.

Has anybody tried a Royer R-121 ribbon mic on Djembe, Darbuka, Ney (wooden flute), Oud (like a lute), Zither or similar instruments?

I wouldn't go exclusively with a 121 for all of those. Maybe paired with an LDC for sweetness.

I'm too afraid of figure-8s on soft instruments in unknown rooms....
