experiencing latency when recording

hi gearslutz! first time poster and real new to the whole recording world. ive been recorded plenty of times but the last couple of days have been my first attempts and cutting some demos of my originals. i went out and picked up a Steinberg Cl-1 usb audio interface to record onto my acer aspire one netbook. the interface came with some recording software which i have yet to install so i have just been messin around with recording it onto audacity.Audacity seems to work fine, everything sounds right on, but when i go to record my electric drums or even another bass track over a previously recorded track, even though im using a metronome, there is a slight time delay between the two recorded tracks, which, as time goes on in the song, becomes much worse.
just wondering if this is a problem with the Cl-1, audacity, or the fact that im recording onto a 1 gig netbook.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
