Midi Controller or MOX8?
I am new to the DAW scene, but have played for many years. I have my studio set up but lack a keyboard midi controller.

Being a piano player I want a hammer action keyboard so the feel is something I am used to. Controllers like that aren't cheap, but not too expensive ($799 for Akai MPK88). There is also a nice synth with Midi for about twice the price ($1599 for Yamaha MOX8).

In my mind the money I would save in plug-ins would make up for the cost of the device. But that is based on no experience in this area.

Does a keyboard midi controller give me something that the MOX 8 doesn't?

Any advice from people with experience would be greatly appreciated.

I decided for a Yamaha MO8 (no X here), because of the excellent keyboard. I am a piano player too, and like to have that feel. The Korg and Roland equivalents were OK, but not as good as the Yamaha. I am using it as a MIDI controller for my virtual instruments as well as a sound device, because some sounds in it are still superior to what I find in my virtual instruments.

And I can't think of anything that a MIDI Controller keyboard can do that a MOX8 does't.
