Weak Electronic Drum Samples?

Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend some good resources for understanding how Amplitude and dBs work in relation to recording/mixing? I am diving into the world of electronic music, and creating my own drum samples right now. When layering the kick and snare for example, I am taking out what I dont need with EQ and slightly boosting what I do need to each track. I am being sure to keep each track's signal as hot as possible without clipping, and then resample it all into another track (also just below clipping). However, it seems like it never hits as hard as I would like it to, and is just slightly too quiet. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Many folks will give you tips, like compression, etc.

I'll only tell you that there is no need to get close to clipping, -12dB FS is more than enough, so you'll have headroom for further processing for your samples

Not sure if you're doing this already, but depending on the electronic genre you're doing, be sure to pump the bass, leads, pads etc whenever the kick is playing. It'll make the kick sound much more powerful.
