tracking synth volume issues

Hey. I recently bought a prophet 08 and have been doing some recording with it. I'm quite green when it comes to recording so sorry if this is obvious.
Here's the problem:
With the level set so there is zero peaking(or even close to peaking) I can still hear the clicking sound. In order to get rid of it I have to turn the volume of the synth channel, all other channels(so it's mixed) and the master fader down really low in order to hear everything the way I want to. Then, if I jack the speakers up all the way it sounds OK.

So, it's not the speakers(because I can still get them fairly loud once I turn the track(s) and master fader down). It's not the synth(once again, sounds fine when turned way down). What could it be?

The same thing happens when I reamp the synth through my space echo.

Thanks guys.

Need more info. Exactly how is it connected?
  • API MIC, LINE, INST in?
  • API LINE out?
  • 002 in?
  • What 002 out into what speakers?

Hey Brew. Thanks for the reply.

Here's my chain:

I'm going into the HiZ input on the API

xlr out of API into an attenuator

xlr out of At. into xlr in's on 002 (4-8)

002 into JBL LSR 4326 monitors.

Need more info. Exactly how is it connected?
