Samplerate issues

What's good fam

So I've got a problem with this song I recorded last year for some group... Basically what I think may've happened is that we recorded to a beat that had been subject to a sample rate conversion, which we obviously didn't notice until I wanted to mix.

As a result the vocals we've recorded are of a foreign bpm to the original beat in it's original 48khz samplerate as compared to the new 96khz (which the vocals are also at). So when I exported the separates of the original BEAT and tried to put the vocals in the mix, they obviously didn't match.

I've been able to get the new tempo of the 96khz vocals but now what I need advice on is how do I adjust the beat (48khz) and the vox (96khz) to match? Or which one would cause the least artifacts/truncation, and how can I eliminate this if it is possible?

All replies appreciated.

I don't undestand exactly.

Do you have more than one sample rate in your session? What DAW are you using?

Since you are talking about a doubling of the sample rate, are the vocals playing back at double the speed and pitch of the drums?

Find a process tool called Resample in your DAW and make sure your project is the same rate.

Sample rate conversion and the way files with different sample rates are treated can vary with different DAWs and even with different versions of the same program. Some versions of ProTools (10) will automatically convert sample rate (or at least play the file correctly, but some will open a project at the sample rate of the first project file and the others will be incorrectly imported at the wrong rate. BPM and sample rate are different factors, although playing a file back at the wrong sample rate will obviously change the BPM. If the recordings were done to a different tempo (when played back at the correct sample rate) then sample rate conversion is not going to help.

In Logic you can convert sample rate in the file bin: "Bin: Audio File > Copy/Convert Audio Files.".

Every modern DAW will usually have some provision to convert and save files at the current project rate. Check the "help" section of the specific DAW you're using.
