My fades are coming up blank in Pro Tools. Why?

I'm working in the Protools edit window on my Mac. I have a few sessions where the fades won't work. They work in other sessions. So I believe the problem is within the session. When I try the fade function, it just leaves an empty space in the wave although the wave is still playing its just visibly empty and the sound does not fade. Also when I consolidate regions, it does the same thing. Please help. Thanx.

Have you checked the Task Manager inside Pro Tools?

Did you try rendering the fades to see if they work?

By rendering I mean consolidate the wave file and the fade you created

What version of PT are you running?

If PT9.x or below...
Try this: Close and reopen the session. When you do, you should get a dialog prompting you about missing audio files. You can leave "Automatically Find and Relink" checked, but also select Regenerate Fades Without Searching. This should re-render them and they'll show up again.
