Resources for newbies?

Are there any resources (preferably on the Internet) that one could recommend to help a newbie learn the ins and outs of recording and mixing music? I plan on recording mainly my own stuff (basically pop/rock or indie rock), but I have very little prior experience, so if there were any sites that have guides or things of the like, I'd be interested in finding out about them! Thanks!!

YouTube is amazing, or you could try somewhere like Groove3.com.

The best youtube videos on mixing I've found (and his website The Recording Revolution - Home Studio Tips, Tricks, And Tutorials has really great ideas and rules for home recording musicians too) is this series: 5 Minutes To A Better Mix: Proper Gain Staging - TheRecordingRevolution.com - YouTube

Not websites, but two resources I found invaluable when dusting the rust off (both available in ebook format):

1- "Practical Recording Techniques" by Bartlett and Bartlett (new edition is available, haven't seen the new one).

2- "Mixing Secrets" by Mike Senior.

Both pretty in-depth for a beginner, but easy reads. Great "refresher" material if you've been out of this for a while. I've gone back to both a few times since reading through them the 1st time. If nothing else, they can help fill in the down time between projects (I'm not a videogamer, so prefer to read).
