Can I gain stage using a low input sensitivity on my i/o to increase signal level and

What is the penalty for using a low input sensitivity in PT HD using my 96i, like a setting of -8 as opposed to +4. My Control 24 pres are noisy with ribbons, why wouldn't i just use a low input sensitivity which would allow me to not open up the gains on the Control 24 pres to get a louder level and thereby reduce hiss. I know there is a catch but I can't find it anywhere. Do I lose dynamic range at lower input sensitivities?

First of all, you can't adjust the cal of the 90io, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Also, even if you could, the mic and preamp are going to have a fixed level of noise. The 90io noise is going to be lower than that. So you're going to get the same result, because the limiting factor is the mic and preamp, not the IO.
