AKG C12a - Suspension Mount Suggestions Please?

Hi there,
I've just acquired an AKG C12a which is an awesome sounding mic.
However as it attaches to the stand with a rigid connector that actually screws into the mic it is very prone to thumps and bumps if the mic stand gets touched (or worse still) kicked!
Has anyone managed to use a suspension mount with this particular mic and if so how did you manage to attach it to the mount?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Apologies if I've posted in the wrong area.

If it's an original C12, the clamp-on shockmount manufactured by FLEA should fit. It's about 135 Euros. It's a beautiful piece, totally fitting for a fine C12.

The FLEA C12 is manufactured to original mechanical specs.

Another possibility is the Rycote USM. It will handle mics up to 900g weight and 68 mm in diameter (VB version), so should fit a C12. They list the C12 on the Rycote compatibility chart as fitting the standard (55mm) USM.

Shockmount For C 12 A

Hi Lotus 7
Thanks for your kind reply.
However the C12 A is a totally different shape to the C12 and is more akin to a 414 but with a hard wired cable into the attachment that screws onto the mic stand.
So sadly your suggestion just won't work...
Thanks anyway...

Arrgg! Sorry. Missed seeing the "A" and didn't click on your link.

The Rycote USM-VB is supposed to work with the 414 tapered shape, so that may still be a possibility. The rubber pads on the setscrews are pretty "sticky" so should work unless the mic is placed upside down.

There are also the concentric, "in-line" rubber mounts that go between the mike mount and the stand like the old RCA 44s were supplied with and are still produced by Wes Dooley at AEA, but those are not as effective in shock isolation as a "suspension" mount, and should be "tuned" to the weight of the mic.

It might be worthwhile to phone the guys at Rycote (+44 (0) 1453 759338) to ask about the possibility of trying a USM-VB.

Thanks

Hi Lotus 7,
Yep, that's the puppy :-)
Thanks for your help. This certainly looks to be a possible option. I'll follow that up when I've earned some more money....
Peace
