Help! monitor issue KRK rokit 8s

hey!

im gona get straight to it im frustrated!

i just bought a CI1 steinberg interface and a pair of rokit 8s. im running cubase.

So ive plugged them into my interface via trs cables and they are both plugged into 2 different power wall sockets. they seem to be working and i am getting perfect sound out of them in cubase and itunes BUT!! randomly they BOTH cut out and i get a second or 2 of silence! sometimes there is a kind of really quick static white noise just as they go silent. but then they continue playing again! its like someone keeps pressing pause for a second randomly! sooooo frustrating what am i doing wrong!!? only thing i can think of is my pc psu is on its way out but that shouldnt have anything to do with it cos they have their own power supply and cable........PLZ help this nooobie thankssss

Buy a pair of headphones and check if the problem occurs on the hp as well. If not, the krks are to blame.

thanks but i cant really afford to get headphones atm. Is there no other way i can define the problem that anyone can think of? if it was the speakers then that means they both have the exact same problem? i dont want to have to replace them both... im a poor bastard i only just saved enough to afford them in the first place. could it be a problem with any settings or could my interface be faulty? i know the krks have a surge protector or something in them that shuts them off. maybe that is faulty somehow and it is randomly shutting them off and on?? i will try to get headphones but id really appreciate a method i can try right now! :(

You must have some headphones lying around somewhere? Cheap ipod ones...the ones that come free with phones?

Can you try plugging a different device into the speakers to test for the problem? Maybe use a mini jack to RCA cable and plug an MP3 player in?

ok so ive tested them its not the speakers. they work fine with just and ipod going through an minijack to rca etc... could it be the trs cables being too long? can long cables cause this to happen? im now thinking its a fault in my pc or interface

Well, at least there's nothing wrong with the speakers - I can imagine they would be the most expensive to fix.

I doubt it would be the TRS cables if it's happening to both speakers equally. The chances of them both being faulty and causing the same problem is pretty low. And no, length of any balanced cable (TRS, XLR) shouldn't cause any problems.

Double check that your drivers and software are all up to date.

seems like a software problem to me. I need more info on the system.

Sounds to me like the clock frequency on your computer's operating system isn't set to same as your audio interfaces. Google it and it'll explain how to change it better than I can.
