Power amplifier to speakers

Hello everybody. My amp has always been set to the initial settings so i have never tweaked with it. However this week in a gig our drum player will bring there own sound system. Everything is professional he has a professional amp and top end jbls. But his amp has not been connected and knobs are all set to zero. What is the correct way to set the level so the speakers dont blow. For example should i slowly twist the knob until good volume comes? Thanks soo much

Has he ever used them? You might want to ask him how he sets it up.

it mainly depends on the RMS output power of the amp , the RMS power the speakers can handle and the impedance matching...

if you give me some data of speakers and amp, i can tell how about you should adjust it..

cheers

Sounds like it is a proper system that is deigned to work together. Plug it in and use it.
If you want to slowly raise the volume knob.....fine. That's what most people would do. You don't need specs.

Hello. Thanks for your response. Actually he is only bringing his speakers which are jbl pros. And there will be a mixer there but its a mackie 808s which already is powered. When i connect it is coming out mono sound. But mixer is stereo. If you could please help me i would greatly appreciate it.

"When i connect it is coming out mono sound."

What are you connecting? You should have a 1/4" TS plug into the Mackie connected via heavy gauge wire to whatever connector (Speakon?) the JBLs use.

You can test it with any passive hifi speakers: make up the 1/4" T/S - to - bare wires (or bananas, or spades), and, as the smart person said, turn the volume up slowly. There is nothing in any passive speakers that would cause you to have a mono signal; at worst, if the polarity is opposite between the left and right speakers, the sound image will be very diffuse and bass response will be greatly diminished. Again, if you're getting mono when it should be stereo, it's not the speakers or their wires.

This is one of those confusing posts were you have to translate wrong terminology and try and figure out what the heck your trying to do.
First you say "your Amp" so we get the mental picture of a Power Amp like a Crown or a Yamaha.
Then you say you are borrowing a system with a power amp?
Then you are talking about a powered mixer???
Then the question turns to "why is this Mono" ??

So what is the problem so someone can actually answer? We do wish to help.
