Lexicon Lambda with fingerpicking

Hi,

First my set-up.

Fingerpicking steel-string acoustic guitar > AKG Perception 220 > Lexicon Lambda > Cubase LE

My problem is that my signal is very low unless I place the Mic very very close to the guitar which I'm fairly sure I'm not supposed to be doing. My style of playing is fairly quiet and this results in a very muffled sound.

I've been doing a lot of searching and found that perhaps the preamps on the lambda are inadequate for what I'm trying to do. Perhaps I need to invest in a preamp or upgrade my interface?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The interface should be fine. You just need to adjust the gain on the pre amps. Turn the gain until the peak light comes on and flickers as you play.
Also the unit has built in DSP so make sure you use the software to set it up properly. There might be a compressor turned on.

Thanks for the reply.

I followed your advice. I had to turn the gain all way up to 100% to get the peak light to occasionally flicker while I play. However on playback it sounds distorted.
