Thread Starter | live recording - M7CL So, I've been asked to record a live event. The desk being used for live sound is a yammaha M7CL 48 channel. What I use is a M Audio Profire 2626 connected to my PC via firewire (and Cubase which i assume is irelevent). What is going to be the best way aswell as easiest to accomplish this?. The research I have done so far suggests ADAT straight out of the desk and into my profire. But thats as far as i know. Dont know if theres something I am missing here. Also I have never used the ADAT connection and dont know how all the channels show up in Cubase, I am assuming it just uses up channels 1-8 and then some. Cheers in advance |

| I haven't recorded with the M7, but I use a LS9-32 daily at my job, which is essentially the M7's little cousin. Very similar layout from the I/O and has the same operating system. If you can get with the live sound person and see how the board is being used, that will help. The M7/LS9 series have generic "OMNI" outs on the back for analog I/O. The M7 has 16 analog outs, but most times these are partially used up for the main stereo or LCR outs and any monitor sends. My LS9 has 16 outs and I use 15/16 for the house and 1-4 for the hardwired house monitors. I use 5-14 as recording outs to my Octopre (8 ch) and/or 002R (4 ch). If I want to use all 12 channels of recording, I pull two monitor sends. I have the ADAT card for it, but for some reason just never used it yet. If all the I/O has been used up for FOH stuff, you need to get a mic splitter. However, you better talk with the FOH guy before you walk in and start pulling inputs to put them in a splitter. As for the ADAT inputs, they should just show up as ADAT 1 or something like that. In ProTools, they show up as ADAT 1-ADAT 8 by default. Obviously you can name them whatever you want. Just select the ADAT input like you would any other analog source. Howie J
