Vocals mixing - tips

Hi guys I was wondering if u could help me out wth some vocals advice- how do you mix your vocals in terms of Arragement, not effects... I sometimes put the main recording in the middle and then doubletrack and place the doubles to the far L and R and also move it a bit to the side to give depth to the main vocal track. Do u have other techniques for vocals mixing? Thing is it doesnt always sound exactly the way i want it to if iam aming for a Thom York style of singing and i want to be more clean and accurate.... Ideas?

there are so many ways you can approach vocals, depending on the sound your after. For hip hop, usually have the lead vocal center and adlibs, doubles slighly lower and center. Then for the chrorus, you can double or tripple the leads and maybe duplicate all the tracks in your daw so you have one set panned hard left, then one set hard right. Then one one, you offset the start time or put a time adjuster plugin so you can get a wide effect. On some tracks do this effect on adlibs too. As far as compression/eq, it all depends how you tracked it and how it's sounding in the mix. It's always a good idea to go through each part of the song and draw in volume changes on soft/loud parts as well or when you want to accentuate certain syllables

I have more tips in this article on my blog that might be of help
