Wow... I figured it would be in the summer. I wonder if there is a lot of bugs.

I see it is not a Universal Binary.

I can imagine that PT is a bitch of a porting task but even still Digi always have to be a little bit awkward don't they?

This is kinda scary. I hope they haven`t left the idea of a UNiversal Binary. I would hate it if they left the PPC platform at such an early stage. (Being left with 7.1 for 3 more years with no upgrades would totally suck)

my MacBook Pro 2ghz Core Duo is proving to be plenty of power for PT LE.

the only RTAS plugs i have for intel are WaveArts, which are for the most part pretty cpu lite.... except for Panorama. I've got a session loaded with about 18 assorted digirack/rtas plug-ins and i'm not even cracking 20% CPU usage. When i disable Core #2 (Chud Tools), its about 38%.

Cool Adam,
Keep those benchmarks a comin'!
Ex: How many, bf76 or EQ3 can you run on a real session?
Thanks,

Uhh guys, what bit rate and khz are you running these tests on? Without these two vital pieces of information the numbers are useless

btw, anyone here try to run it at 24 bit 96khz and see how many tracks you could get?

Man, thats awesome!
Looks like the dual processing is tweaked.
This is big for laptop mixing.
Now to order a macbook...
Cheers,

Kestral,
sorry for leaving that info out.
24bit, 44.1khz

Lozion,
yes it seems very well tweaked for duals. Just from looking at how big an impact disabling the 2nd core does to processing.

Thanks AdamJay!

Wow, I wonder how it would handle 24 bit 96K. Would probably be painful. Oh well, I guess I'll find out when my MacBook Pro comes in.

Well think about this LE is a scaled down version of TDM. They could not do that this time.

Damn! That's really great to see.

How about a mix session with some stereo aux channels? Let us know when you get an actual mix going.

thanks!

im sure ill be labeled the village idiot for this and should have done my homework but, if this pt 7 for intel is not universal binary, does that mean i can use my older plug ins for osx 10.4 or do i need intel / ub plug ins.

my understanding was that you can use any osx plug in as long as youre not in a UB platform (such as running a sequencer in rosetta or non UB app for osx)

guess my question is being answered as my oxford eq's arent loading up in pt 7.1

Exclamation New Mactel PT 7 with APOGEE converters...

So, we have to at least use an M=AUido interface, but can we then add, say an Apogee Mini-me and use that instead through the SPDIF?

Anyone try this for better A/D?

Does it run smoothly htat way?

Of course, on the road, I'll use the M-Aido for monitoring headpnies, but just stack the Mini-me on top for any outboard gear

Thoughts?

Lots of people have been doing that for quite a few years now, in several variations (002 + Apogee Rosetta 800, and substitute 002 for any Digi or M-Audio device, and the Apogee for any high-end A/D and/or D/A of your choice).

It runs quite smoothly.

I myself am using a 002 rack with Apogee Rosetta 800 (via ADAT) and Apogee Mini-Me and Mini-DAC (via S/PDIF).

This is so great.

Anybody have the time to perform a DaveC test and a "DVerb" test as described over at the DUC?

Also, same tests on Os.X Intel and XP Bootcamp would be really interesting for all of us.

Cheers,
// J

But....

Are you guys all using Pro Tools LE or M-Power with these mobile rigs and the new Macintel?

Or is Logic better for mobile?

Please keep in mind htat my main studio is Pro Tools, so everything comes back to the main HD rig.

Yup, my current rig:

Powerbook G4
Apogee Rosetta 200
M-Audio Audiophile Firewire w/Pro Tools M-Powered

I've ordered a 15" MacBook Pro (top of the line), but it'll be awhile before I get it. I have full confidence that it will run just fine.

I wonder how many stereo convolution reverb you could run. Adam Jay if you have TL Space (which, I guess, is the only one compatible at the moment)) could you try it for us with the default IR. Thanks. I hope plugin developpers won't be to long to make their plugins available for intel.

Ben.
