Depends. Does he come with an iLok? If he does, I'm not hiring him.

I heard if you hire hime for a few sessions, whenever he comes to work with a new shirt or pair of shoes or suchlike, you have to pay him an extra 'upgrade' fee. don't even ask the price when he does your session scented with expensive aftershave in an Armani shirt.

I just downloaded the pre-sets, will have some fun checking them tmmrw.

Hmm. It's telling me I need version 1.1, but can't find the updater on Waves site. Anyone else run into this?

I suspect none of the compression settings will be less than 10:1

I'm currently demoing out the URS S-EQ & 1980 Comp along with the Waves SSL package (read that thread but could care less if either actually sound like an SSL; I'm more concerned with what sounds GOOD with what I do). Anyways, I tried to download the presets but was notified as a demo user I'm not allowed to?! This seems pretty silly as my WUP is current for Ren. Max and Tune, not to mention they're only settings! I'd really like to try out a few of the CLA presets in my evaluation, anyone want to scribble some of these secret settings down for me, or take a picture of the screen and send it my way? I s'pose the settings files would be called piracy by waves?
cheers. -Ryan

Oohh Mixerguy your so right - do you know that because of your strong and absolute opinion and your years of seasoned experience - I feel all insecure now about my use of plug-ins now.

I wish I could be like you with your sense of self-confidence and ability. and condescending arrogant sneer.

Gosh I'd better sell my Waves SSL now because I am worried that they 'Suck' and I am deeply concerned about what people like you think.

Yeah I got the same message, went back to the downloads page and got 1.1, it is there.

The I had a brief moment to try the Bass preset on a electric bass track, and the vox preset on male vox track. Those two sound cool, a very good starting place!

Been playing with the presets, and they are indeed very cool. Pulling up the CLA deep snare on one of my snare tracks yielded instant "Lord-Alge" sound.

Definitely some interesting settings to study, things especially EQ-wise I hadn't thought to do. Obviously these presets aren't one size fits all for any kind of source, but great jumping off points to tweak from.

it's kinda ironic he did these for waves, considering he was a house engineer for unique recording (where he recorded & mixed some of MY album) for most of the 80's, after sugar hill. unique & bobby nathan, in case you didn't know, are behind those lovely urs plugins.

Cool, I wasn't aware of the Unique relationship.

And yeah, as zboy2854just mentioned, the SNR Deep preset made me happy. Try it on the bottom snare mic - very cool.

Overall, great starting-points for drums.

True!

Problem is- most plugins don't sound that good.

Reminds me of those cheezy guitar rack processors popular not so long ago... where they had famous guitarists program some of the presets.

All of the above is true, though I gotta say, having gone through the presets, they definitely give you the "Lord-Alge" sound with several of them, although I'm sure that the same settings on an actual SSL would sound even better.

IMO, the best thing about them is just seeing some of the EQ and compression choices that yield those sounds, or at least put you in the ballpark. If you then take those ideas and use them with hardware, so much the better.

If nothing else, I've found the presets to be a valuable study, much the same as when I was an assistant and studied the console settings of good engineers that I assisted for.

plugins = more flavors for the money

When you don't have much money and your dollar will buy a happy meal or one chicken nugget. What would you do?

Happy Meal... You get some fries and a toy.

PS -
aint that the current American trend.... lots of cheap crap - as opposed to a small amount of really high quality stuff that ultimately satisfies you far more?

Spend some time dining in fine eateries in Europe, and you'll know what I mean.
