Retro Instruments Gold Edition Sta-Level Tube Compression Amplifier

Vintage King is advertising the

Retro Instruments Gold Edition Sta-Level Tube Compression Amplifier

Anyone tried, or heard anything about, this thing?

I wonder if this the reissue thethrillfactor was talking about in these threads:

I saw it a week or two ago and was poking around the internet looking for any other mentions, but I couldn't turn up any. I wonder how close it could be to actual production.

Seems interesting. Does it have any of the features that people mod old Sta-Levels to have, like attack and release? Considering old ones are pushing the $1500+ envelope lately, getting one with a warranty doesn't sound so bad. I wonder what brand of transformers they are using? At least you can get it with the 6386.

Edit: Just saw it on the Vintage King site and alas no attack or release. Looks awesome though.

WTF- no attack/release?

That seems really odd.

Looks kind of DIY-ish... $2350 is a premium, when the vintage units are half that..

LA2A's don't have attack and release, and I never thought "Gee, if this had attack and release, it would be cool." I think that just is what it is.

You can tell is sounds great just from the picture.

I just figured since a lot of used Sta levels I have looked at buying, had the mods done to them. I know UA stays true to the old design but you know how some companies "reissues" get the add-on-feature treatment or a modernization of some sort as well.

Unfortunately, it appears that train has sailed...even original ones of questionable condition are going on ebay these days for twice those prices.

New versions do have adj. attack and release now. Done internally with a switch I beleive.

Just got one from VintageKing for demo. I'll report in more depth later. It sounds really good, a unique compressor compared to the classic 1147, dbx160VU, etc. It is awful pricey. On the other hand a Collins 26U-1 sold for over 2700 on Ebay last week.
