This is good news, especially since I want one of the Inner Tube 451 kits. That and a B7 would be bueno.

Cool !

Definately tell us what you think.

I`m thinking of getting at least 2 of the Innertube 450`s plus maybe 2 regular 451`s. Than I`ll get at least 4 of the capsules to mix and match on the different bodies. Awesome !

Hi everyone! I thought I'd give you all a heads up and let you know the Lollipop capsules are on special...$450 each or two for $800. The price will go up to $600 each on 5/22, so if you're interested you might want to jump on this deal!

Hey there Heather. I am wondering if I were to get a couple B6 capsules for my 451, and then down the road buy a bottle or a type b, is there a way to get the fitting changed so I can use them on the BLUE mics? Or is there an exchange program that would work for this?

Just curious. Thanks.

Sorry Dudelys,
We cannot change the fittings on the capsules after they are purchased, or make exchanges at a later time. However, there is no rule against having both types!

I'd very much like to do a shootout of sorts to determine which of these will work best for me. Red has a good rep for returns, etc, but I want to compare them one to one.

I'm looking mainly to check the U47ish, the 251ish, and the M50ish lollipops. So Calers wanna meet up?

Rob,
It really depends on the sound you're looking for. The R0 and R7 are quite different from one another. This might be very lengthy, but I think it will help you decide.

R0: Cardioid Large Diaphragm single backplate
"The ultimate big vocal sound"
(Sound influenced by Elam 251)

Bright, silky and intimate presence – perfect for background and lead vocals, guitar, percussion and all top-end sources.
The R0 is a bright single back plate capsule, tuned rather high. It is similar in tone to the R6, with an added sparkle of air in the extreme high end. To obtain the best Big Vocal Sound, work the RO close with a pop filter.
The R0 exhibits lots of cutting power and airy response, and is particularly useful for an enhanced pop music vocal presence requiring extended highs and lows.

R1: Cardioid Small Diaphragm
The accuracy plus capsule
(Sound influenced by Schoeps 221b/AKG 451/452: CK1)

Sonic accuracy with extended high-frequency, response–nylon/steel-string acoustic guitar, drum overheads, percussion, room miking & foley.
The R1 has been designed to capture instruments with a detailed high end, and features a dip in response around the 400 Hz to enhance the clarity of a program source.
We found the R1 most notable characterstics to be sweet highs, abundant high end detail, extremely lifelike transient response, and an open, uncompressed sound that seems to add extra depth and dimension to any source. It offers a punchy bass pickup without extended or muddy lows, netural off-axis response, and a lack of harshness that is extraordinary for a small diaphragm transducer.

R2: Figure of Eight Large Diaphragm
The vintage capsule.
(Sound influenced by RCA 44 Ribbon)

The response of the R2 has been tailored to resamble the big, warm sound and open pickup pattern of a vintage ribbon microphone. When worked close this capsule is reminiscent of the "Bing Crosby Sound" with soft highs and an enhanced proximity effect.
The R2 offers a thick and compressed tonality, with an aggressive upper midrange and big low end response on par with the B0 and the R4 capsules. It does a remarkable job of capturing the gentle timbre and roomy pickup of a ribbon microphone.

R3: Cardoid (mid size diaphragm)
The netural capsule
(Sound influenced by - Neumann U89/ TLM 170)

The R3 is our most accurate, and, in a purely technical sense, "best" capsule. The R3 has a soft midrange boost to detail the center frequencies in a program source.
This capsule does a little to flatter or enhance the recorded source, but rather "tell it like it is." the high end response is smooth, with exemplary transient response, and midrange to low end pickup appears to be flat.

R4: Sphere pressure omni - Small Diaphragm
The big omni
(Sound influenced by Neumann/Telefunken M50)

The R4 represents our finest craftsmanship, evoking an ethereal quality sought after by producers and engineers a like. For room sounds and ambient drum recording, nothing parallels the sound of this capsule.
The R4's sweet highs are never harsh or strident, and the bass response below 120 Hz is unusually robust for an omnidirectional microphone. It's smooth presence lift conveys an extra measure of high end detail and focus, preventing distant sounds from becoming overly diffuse or "washed out".

R5: Pressure omni large diaphragm
The presence omni
(Sound influenced by Neumann M55K)

Frequency response peaks at 3-5 kHz and 12-15 kHz gives this capsule a distinctive bright and incisive timbre.
The R5 is distinguished by super detailed highs and attenuated lower midrange to bass response. This capsule is the ideal candidate for close miking many acoustic instruments.

R6: Cardoid large diaphragm dual backplate
The modern presence vocal sound
(Sound influenced by AKG C12)

This is our premium capsule, tuned to deliver a larger than life sound with extension in the lower and upper frequencies.
Modern tone with sharply-etched presence. With a brighter response and more proximity effect than the R7, and less high or low end extension compared to the R0, this capsule is logically the first choice for vocals. The R6 has the highest sensitivity of our R line of capsules, and delivers significantly hotter output than most condenser microphones.

R7: Cardoid large diaphragm single backplate
The classic vocal sound
(Sound influenced by Neumann/Telefunken U47)

The R7 is our best selling capsule! This single backplate capsule is our version of the unmistakably warm sound of the great 1950's tube microphone. A boost in the upper midrange response brings out just the right amount of intimate detail for vocal tracks that demand the extra presence.
The natural high end response of this capsule is the perfect complement for midrangy or thin voices, as well as any rock/ soul/ blues/ jazz vocals that need to "sit in the mix"

What are you intending to use the capsules on? Ask yourself what kind of sound you want out of that instrument, and there's your answer!

FWIW,

Just bought an R4 and R7 today: already have an R6 and LOVE it on female vox!

BTW - the R4 goes up another $200 (to $800) after the 22nd, so better act now!

PSS: no return policy on caps (according to Heather) so keep it in mind.

Heather, I own a Kiwi, Cactus and (4) Dragonfly Deluxes, So I think the R6 Capsule is not needed anytime soon... But how do the mics I own compare to the R7 and R0 capsule..? The R4 looks very appealing as well for me.

Rob,
The R7 is the capsule used in the Cactus, so I suggest the B4 or B0 to add diversity to your collection (see descriptions above in my earlier post).

I want to clarify we DO have a return policy. If you purchase a capsule and it's not right for you, we are happy to make an even exchange with something else. Of course this only applies directly after purchase. Also we can issue a refund minus restocking fee.

The point is we hate to see anyone get stuck with something they don't like or won't use. Red customers are almost always satisfied if not completely impressed by the quality of our capsules. Here are a few user reviews:

http://www.vintagemicrophone.com/JSh...e=reviews.html

On occasion an exchange or refund is in order. This policy allows us to be sensitive to our customers' needs, while ensuring they don't get red (or blue) in the face (oh that was bad wasn't it?)!

Thanks Heather, I went with the R0's. Looking for something a bit hyped in the high end and I think this will be fine. I love the cactus and just used it all over this new record I just produced, as well as all the dragonfly deluxe's on the Toms.
