Maybe it's time for me to finally get a damn lunchbox. I've thought about it for a long time and with all these options from buzz, purple, oldschool, and um... oh yea API! It seems like it would be well worth the investment.

Also, of note, Buzz Audio points out on the Elixir web page that the Elixir draws 150mA of current. I'm not sure about other manufacturer's powered racks, but the OSA PSU is rated for 3000mA, which means it can theoretically run 20 Elixir units at one time (obviously done through multiple racks), so having 11 Elixirs in one 11 module OSA PowerRack(tm) should not be a problem. When we receive the Elixirs in the near future I'll test a full rack over a few days to make sure of this is not a problem. This announcement is a pre-release, the first 50 units will only be available exclusively through Atlas Pro Audio. Thank you.

Buzz Audio wrote:

Each elixir module draws 150mA of current from the frame power supply in which it is fitted and this is generally higher than most modules available from API(TM) and other manufacturers. At this time, it is recommended that only two modules are fitted into the API(TM) Lunchbox frame along with other modules. Power supply compatibility with other frame manufacturers is not fully known at this time. We will update this information once further testing has been conducted

To me the 500 series is like the volkswagon beetle.. cheap, almost a cult to own & people love em..

Better make it one of the 11 space racks.

Personally I think I could fill up 2 of them between the stuff that`s allready available + the stuff that`s going to be available soon.

Just to clarify, Atlas Pro Audio has helped us get this project to market, which is why they have exclusive on the first 50 units in the USA. Thanks Nathan and Brijitte!

Cheers
Tim.

The elixir is not an MA2.2. It is impossible to get the electronics of a MA2.2 onto the 500 series card size, and, the power supply available in the racks is only +/-15 volts whereas the MA2.2 needs +/-28 volts.

However, the elixir does use the same amplifier modules as the MA2.2 and is of similar topology. The internal frequency response of the elixir extends to about 800kHz so it is quite fast. The Lundahl transformer is quite transperant sounding, but it does add a level of bass harmonic which sounds nice and warm, especially when the level is pushed. One can expect a very sweet top end along with warm lows.

The difference between the Lundahl and Sowter I cannot really comment on because I have not heard a MA2.2 with the Lundahl fitted, but I will try this out soon!

Cheers
Tim.

And here's what your rack could look like by the end of the year (or sooner, all going well).

I estimate the compressor will come in around US$800-$850. I am working on it now with production proto about a few weeks away, so maybe 2 months should see the production run. (Gee I wish things could go faster!).

Thanks for the nice words people!
Tim.

Hi tim

I am excited about the 500 series stuff from Buzz Audio. i was wondering if you will be putting out an EQ to kind of round out a traditional front end strip??

right now i have a lunchbox with a 512c pre, 550 vintage eq and an RNC.

just curious how you would compare the Elixir t the 512 in terms of sound?? are yours mainly clean? colored??

thanks for any direction, this looks really nice
