| Gear Head | SM Pro Audio AI8 ADAT to Analog Converter AI8 - ADAT to Analog Converter The AI8 is a compact high quality half rack sized 8 channel ADAT to analog format converter. With 1 x 8 Channel ADAT digital input on the rear, and 8 analog outputs on the front panel, the AI8 is well-suited for use in all kinds of studio setups. Whether you're working with I/O cards, digital mixers or digital musical instruments - the AI8 converts your ADAT digital signal data reliably and professionally into 8 channels of analog format audio signal with absolute fidelity. http://www.smproaudio.com/AI8.htm <p> http://www.smproaudio.com/images/ai8_1.jpg My thoughts: Despite the backwards/sketchy description on their web page (it's headlined as a Analog to ADAT Converter... insert emoticon scratching his head....) it looks like a possible bandaid fix until I can get my hands on that Apogee D/A-16 I've been looking at. I still like to use my Trident\outboard at mixdown and more gouzoutas almost always prove helpful... I'm kind of a moron when it comes to clocking, and digital interconnects, but shouldn't this thing have a BNC for wordclock Sync, or is the ADAT optical solid enough to avoid the jitters? Thoughts/comments?

| okay so this is the D/A version of their other product, the A08 8ch. A/D. i assume this is gonna run the same $150 that the A/D does. and in that case, it seems like a great low end solution for those needing 8 D/A without the A/D. With the increasing popularity of outboard summing and a move back to OTB mixing for many, it will fill a niche for sure. the A08 has Wordclock BNC in and out, so i assume this will as well. |

| Probably because they would have had to include a good balanced line driver pushing the price up. |
