Neve 8816 video - check it out here

Gearslutz,

There has been a massive amount of interest already in the Neve 8816 summing mixer that we showcased at the AES in New York.

We have received hundreds of preorders for the units already from our dealers and resellers worldwide. We will be shipping the first of these preordered units in January 2006 (not long to wait now....).

In response to the avalanche of questions raised on this forum and in my regular dealings with Neve customers, we have produced a short video to showcase the features of this incredible box. You can watch this video by clicking on the link above.

I hope you will agree, the bang for buck ratio with this new mixer is considerably weighted in favour of the people we value the most, those who choose to make the difference, those who refuse to compromise on quality - Those that use authentic Neve equipment, made in England.

Keep the faith

Wish more manufactures would do this. Great demo that answers 2 months of Gearslutz questions. Thanks. K

Mike,

Nice redesign on the web site. And also am pleased to see some release info on the Audiofile SCX.

The new ownership appears to be a good, or even a great thing for Neve, as witnessed directly through discussion with him on the floor at AES.

Looking forward to January... it's been a long time coming, and hopefully will be worth the wait and competitive in price/features. It would be hard to be as innovative as the original Audiofile M8 Green Screen, but who knows?

Thanks!

I know it's too late now, but why wasn't this made as a 24 channel instead of only 16?

Hi,

Mike I have a few questions that weren't clear in the video.

Does the cue button on each channel follow pan and fader? Or is it a fixed level pre-fade send to the cue master?

How much will the Digi option be and are the rear connectors Dsub for the analogue I/O?

Also, some more info about topology would be great, we've heard here it is IC based (no problem with me) but I'm curious, is the output stage discrete or IC? and are the transformers 'pumpkin' style torroids or vintage style St'Ives?

I presume this uses virtual earth summing (ala 88R?) instead of passive summing ala vintage Neves?

Thanks Tom

Hey Mike, I was I sure heard this playing in the background as I read that last paragraph. Liverpool's not quite Burnley, but close enough for us London boys

New box looks great - particularly like the monitoring features. Hope to see it in January...

Exactly! Thanks Chris.

The AMS 8816 video really was very informative, demonstrating many of the 'hidden' features of the unit excellently.

Now that I am seriously in the market for something like this I would very much like to see the video again. Anybody at AMS-Neve there?? Mike??

Well the original post is 2 1/2 years old. At this point it would probably be best to contact Neve directly to see if the video is still available.

I bought one 2 weeks ago and it's simply amazing and has core "big-console" features for tracking and mixing. If you ever mixed on a Neve 88R or VR you will do anything to integrate the 8816 into your rig.

Thanks Charles. I came across the video myself a few weeks ago. I was kind of disappointed when I re-watched it. Seemed like lots of the features were geared towards electronic music production...
