You mean this? I'm supposed to be getting one from the first batch here pretty soon.

Around $1,800 target price for the stereo unit (ST) w/ remote. I also want their new mastering console, The Dangerous Master. That one's on the site already, but I haven't asked about a price yet. 3 insert loops, M/S processing, etc....

Must have!

Must.....buy!

Damn, looks like I need to email Chris and see what's up. Nice looking piece! I've been looking at the Grace 906 and the EMM labs. Nice to see Chris has addressed surround monitoring. The last mastering console he built under his own name for Dominic Maita at Airshow is GORGEOUS!!!

Looks like it went up on the website this weekend...

I'm in need of a piece like this but the presonus central station is more within my budget. However I want a device that has a great headphone amp. As far as I know the Grace is the best for this.

questions:

- anyone know the release date for this
- the quality of the headphone amp in comparison to the grace/presonus/dac1
- with the stereo version does it have a third simultaneous output like the presonus so you can use it with your sub
- can you get discounts on this or can you only order it through their website

thanks

No digital inputs, just analog. But for $1,800 I'm not complaining. I have converters already.

Just got an email from Dangerous. The info for these is now on their website, and preorders are beginning for the first batch. Shipping after AES.

I hope Chris doesn't mind me sharing this info from his e-mail.
Chris Muth says:
"There is a switching module that will go with all of this stuff for video or multi channel AES/Lightpipe signals as soon as I develop the electronics for it. Probably early next year. The buttons are on the remote for it already so basically, another 1 RU module goes into the rack with converters or switchers in it depending on the card one slides into the module. This ST-SR sounds really good. (brief edit) I can't stand DCA's, VCA, or DSP level control. I want to hear what my original signal is. Additional processing to change the level means that I can't hear what I'm sending out the door. Kinda defeats the purpose of monitoring."

So there will be an additional unit with converters and some other tricks.

I think my monitor control box search may be over!

Also, will it sum the inputs? As in can you monitor the output of your DAW, and the other sources at the same time?

Got mine hooked up and it sounds really good! Transparent, clean, punchy, even frequencies, all the good stuff. Here's a slutty photo.

From the looks of it, they dropped the brushed aluminum vibe.
Is the remote still made of aluminum or some kind of metal, or is it a hardened plastic of some sort?
Still looks cool, just different than what's on their website

I'm highly dissapointed in that photo. Looks like it's speckeled painted. I thought the brushed alumanum looked much more cool.

Even the knob looks cheap. Huh? It went from cool in my book to rather buying the central station. Which I have already. My point is the original photos made me want to work harder to buy the Dangerous. I know the sound is whats really important but sound wise the central station is fine and works for me.

Looks like dangerous visited pimp my ride..........

I know I listen to the finish on my gear form over function, the american way...

(adding to my post above)
Sure the brushed aluminum looks nicer. Is it going to make me buy something else because it looks cooler? No! Aesthetics are nice but really take a back seat to sonics in my world. YMMV

Now where did I leave my trophy wife?

Given that this is a remote control we're looking at and talking about, not the rack unit which handles the audio, don't aesthetics and ergonomics play a pretty vital role?

Yeah I guess the brushed metal look didn't happen. But it's a very solidly built unit, including the knob. It does not feel cheap at all. You can also hear the relays clicking on the main unit, which is cool.

I do wish the knob had a lighted position indicator, but this thing sounds killer! The lack of brushed metal has not bothered me thus far.

I gotta agree that the final production faceplates on the desktop controller look shitty to me. There are choices that look and sound good, when Im buying a high end toy that I have to look at constantly, I want both.

I like the photo with the line grain finish better too, but my own experience bulding pro audio gear taught me that a brushed finish on a curved aluminum surface, or even worse - a curved brush direction on a flat surface - is a royal PITA for production & the fabrication subcontractors. But the textured paint is lame. Something like a bead blast & clear anodize with a clearcoat finish would look a lot better.

They should powder coat them, but I assume the change was to keep cost down.

I have that slight feeling that the labels on the second picture's surface are hard to read. A "straight" faceplate is better for all kinds of labels.

Can I order a black coated version?

That would look awesome with the color leds

Uh, so do I get this [edit] less flattering [edit] looking one replaced? Do I have to pay for a new one? Guess I'll contact Dangerous Music and find out.

Actually it's not that horrible. But it would be nice to have the better looking one. I was a little surprised when I first opened it up and saw that it was different.

It's not like I'm losing sleep over it though. It works great and sounds amazing.

Hey, it would probably look great in a dance club

As ugly as that color/texture looks, as long as it translates tru I would be ok(somewhat) with it. On the other hand, powder coated black iodized finish would be my choice.

I really like the ergonomics of it, at least from what I can see. I think I will try and demo one.

Mine is a pre-production unit. But if both the previous prototype and the subsequent production units look way better, I can't help but be a little upset myself.

We'll see. I'm guessing I'll have to pay some money if I want a nicer one.

Okay, everyone can relax about the finish. I'm sorry that photo stirred up so much controversy.

I just spoke to Bob at Dangerous Music, and he explained it to me. There were 5 pre-production units like mine where the metalshop didn't get the finish right. Since there were a few of us who just wanted one asap and didn't care if the finish was perfect, they sent them out.

They now have a test unit from the metalshop that looks very much like the first picture, and all subsequent units will have the nicer looking finish. And the best news is that once they have taken delivery of sufficient units, they're going to swap me one of the polished ones at no charge!

I explained that it wasn't causing me to lose sleep, but that some of you slutz were not thrilled with the cheaper look. They know. I really like doing business with Dangerous Music. They're great people and they make great products.

And again, this things sounds really, really good!

Thanks for the update. I'm definitely anxious to see what the production units will end up like so I can hurry up and make my decision on a monitor control.
