2 years and 2 months ago, Chris Randall from Audio Damage wrote on the KVR Audio forum: "As for the tube thing, you can rest assured that we won't ever do tube emulations or say we've made a tape delay or a spring reverb. All three of those things are essentially impossible to do in software; too many variables."

Let's see if WaveArts made the impossible, possible.

Dr. Gardner is an audio DSP pioneer as far as I'm concerned, and WA is about as "no-hype" as they come... just real science by real scientists. Also, they provide excellent support. So, my money is on it being very good. I use something from Power Suite 5 just about every day. I do hope there will be an intro discount, and/or a discount for existing customers... mainly because I'm poor.

mmm, ever with the eq all at 0 the eq still has a sound until you turn off the switch...
it can easily get crunchy...
so far it seems to have a decent tone and using the vstanalyzer i see how much harmonic content it adds... so far so good... i like it.. dont like that it rapes the cpu and im on a macpro.. but once i create the sound i want i might freeze it or use offline processing

I love AD's stuff, but Chris isn't even a programmer.

I'm willing to give Wave Arts the benefit of the doubt, I'll give it a go!

Anyone who ever says "impossible" when it comes to tech is being a bit silly.

Won't put me off buying Eos one of these days though.

It sounds simply impressive, IMHO the best tube emulation so far. It really gives mojo!

what % of the mercury bundle sounds bad as far as todays plugins go?

if(i haven't heard it) this plug sounds great now, it will sound sound great in 4 or 5 years when we have 16core iphones and more cpu than we could ever use...

Definitely look forward to trying this out. It's about time a more advanced model came out. Who cares about CPU consumption when you can print directly to a track? It's okay to commit every once in a while, and I have a feeling my vocal tracks will be seeing a lot of this plug-in if it really does sound great. I'd rather an accurate model and high consumption, rather than 0.5% consumption and a simplified, hack-job model and a pretty UI.

I compared this to my SPL TwinTube, another tube saturation plugin.

The TwinTube uses slightly less CPU and sounds much, much better in my opinion. It costs $100 more but if I had neither plug-in I'd once again pick the SPL.

In my opinion after comparing both of them, Wave Arts sounds much better and 100% tube-like.

Well, maybe he can't.

As for this product, I'm interested in seeing what Wave Arts came up with. For adding pure 'tube flavor', it will have to battle SPL TwinTube IMO.

Just got the demo – it sounds very smooth, even when driven hard. I didn’t compare it to other tube saturators, but I’ll do when I have some time. So far it’s quite good.

I guess that statement was more true 2 years ago, but it's an indication of which things are harder to emulate. It would also explain the high CPU power needed for this type of plug-in.

I'm thrilled though that plug-ins are making another step forwards and getting ever closer to their hardware counterparts; Softube TubeTech CL-1B, UAD Fatso & Elysia mPressor for example.

I'm also interested in a direct comparison (with soundfiles!) between SPL TwinTube & WaveArts Tube Saturator

played with it a bit...really sounds smooth.

really interested in reading some more comparisons. i'm about to purchase something in this direction...also peeking at psp mix saturator (mix pack) which is surely more versatile. so...spl twin tube better than the wave arts?

for some reason wave arts, in general, barely gets any love here on GS...
wonder why....

I think the reason why Wave Arts doesn't get much love is because basically for every one of their plugins, there's a PSP, Stillwell, or Voxengo counterpart for the same or less money and in my opinion, much better.

I'd be willing to provide audio examples for a shoot-out between SPL TwinTube, WA Tube Saturator, and the tube settings on URS Saturation. However right now I'm working on orchestral material so it might be a short while before I get to the proper sort of music for tube saturation...

Right, DUY website seems to have been update a couple of days ago, and seems to have updated products to Snow Leoppard. Updating his offers. Anyway, I've asked some questions to tech support, just to check there's anybody there, because I really like Dad Tape.
I've checked Tube Saturator and CPU it's really high, 3 plugins in a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo, so to use it I have to change my workflow. So I'll remain using Millennia STT1 as external plugin for this task.
