New Waves box .. APA32 is it a monster ?

It seems like for a portable system with a laptop this would be a good alternative to cards .

It offers a vast expansion of plugin options for professional users and home studios alike. A typical project studio with one APA32 will never again have to worry about using too many plugins, because between the APA32 and the host computer, there’s enough processing power for just about anything. Professional studios and facilities can realize the same benefits simply by scaling up with multiple APA32 units. The APA32 was perfectly stable over the three weeks I used it, and was always responsive when I routed plugins through it. It never crashed, even when I exceeded its processing capabilities with too many plugins, driving the NetShell meter well over 100 percent.
It’s a bit pricey, but the ability to process 20 plugin instances simultaneously compares favorably to less-expensive competitors that handle only half that many plugins at once. On that basis, the APA32 is a cost-effective way of dramatically increasing plugin power, especially for those who already own current versions of Waves plugins. With the quality and breadth of the Waves plugin catalog, this unit offers a way out of the too-many-plugins-for-the-computer dilemma. Instead, there’s a new quandry: Just because you can add a plugin doesn’t mean you should!
I would highly recommend this unit for those who need a no-holds-barred approach to plugin application, whether the venue is a large facility or a home studio.
