Sonar 5

We just got over moving everything to Sonar 4, and now they come out with more. It doesn't seems like much of an upgrade to me, and a lot of the value seems to be in bundled stuff. I was hoping for improved scoring, and hardware delay compensation :-(

This appears to be their 64-bit beta they were testing, and that may be a plus for 64-bit users (though it involves an OS upgrade too). The site says the archtecture will yield some improvement even for non-64 bit users.

Guess we're gonna hold off on this one. They usually offer the upgrade cheaper later or in special deals as the year goes on. Also, once the tour comes through town, you can often get a leftover disc at GC for like $99.

No man, I see the worlds first 64 bit FP audio engine in a popular DAW as pretty big news.

Doh! JM, I see you already posted this. I shoulda looked further down, didnt see it :-)

Yeah, it is cool that they moved to 64 bit and implimented VST as native. Still, now all the plugs have to be wrapped anyway into the 64 bit bridge. I still think a year or more before we see some plugs in 64. Even then, they estimate a 20-30% increase in efficiency right away, which will be nice.

No need to defend Sonar to me, I use it every day :-) I just want hardware DC and improved scoring, lol.

Wonder if plugs with internal 64 bit prosessing will dither down to 32 bit via the bit bridge and then up again, or if we'll get a clean 64 bit signal path all the way..

Might e-mail Cakewalk about this one.

That variphrase thing might be cool too, I was very close to picking up one of those Roland boxes a couple of years ago.
