Wolfram Tone

I dunno how many Gearslutz are into Mathematica (OK I know: nobody), but Wolfram Research just released this tool to automatically generate music:

Wolfram Tone

Excerp:
"WolframTones works by taking simple programs from Wolfram's computational universe, and using music theory and Mathematica algorithms to render them as music. Each program in effect defines a virtual world, with its own special story--and WolframTones captures it as a musical composition."

Uh, OK....Does it run in ProTools?

Vermeer,

I got lost in that universe for an hour, and I still have a lot of reading to do. So, does the government know about this? Or is it the result of some black project at S4?

I think I'm not getting anything done today....

Cool!

Max,

I find this interesting that a company as big as Wolfram (million+ Mathematica seats) would look into "Automatic Music Generation". I mean, the whole idea was always dead in the water because at best, it sounded like elevator music.

The difference here is that they are targeting *ring tones*, which already sound like elevator music, so no one is going to compare that to a U2 song or something. Brillant!

Hope you can still get a few things done ;)
