I use the IboxTA as my main converter. I think it sounds very cool. I cannot compare it to something like Lavry, but I really feel good recording with it. The only thing that is a little annoying is that they have a very hot level. 0db is around +24 db, so if you plug something like a synth or a POD to it, it will never reyh 0db, not even -6db. Also when I first played a very hot mix through the Ibox into my Tascam desk, the inputs of the Tascam simply could not handle the level!

I tested them against other, more expensive ADs. Given the 50 dollar/ch price, they were amazing ! Not considering the price, I did prefer two different converters, but I could have lived with the Ibox. We went for the Soundscape IO896 (8ch ADDA, currently 1500 dollar per unit and co-designed by Apogee).

Both sounded very neutral. The IO896 has better SN ratio. On paper, the IO896 has better THD - which could (maybe) be heard as just that bit more transparant, or natural sound. It was this and for a big part the ability to split the 24ch over 3 boxes that made the decision (we have two mobile systems, so we would have to buy 2 Iboxes, giving 48ch but about the same price as three IO896). FYI the other brands were Benchmarkmedia (the older 2408), Digital audio Denmark and Stagetech Truematch (1000 dollar/channel !)

The IO896 is currently at 1495 euro. The original price (until Mackie dumped Soundscape, and the Apogee deal was off) was set to 5000 euro per unit. So these are actually expensive units, but 'old' stock... I think you'll be pleasantly surprised ![]()

Where did you find the IO896 for that price? Even after the exchange rate its still alot less then what they are charging on the website. i went to the website and there charge $2500 for them. DivineMusic, do they have any more for sale where your getting yours from? I am real interested, but at the price on the website i might as well get a rosetta 800. | |

from what we told me, its built on the same design of the rosetta 800. the sound difference of the i/0896 VS rosetta should be very minimal

I think there's quite a difference between Rosetta and the ss Apogee converter. Soundscape use different converter chips (crystal?? I forgot which ones). Tom of Soundscape Germany told me that! So I would not expect to get a Rosetta for half the price. It will be a very high quality converter though.

just have upgraded my rme converters with this summersale. ibox-48-ta with a pci card with 5 dsp.has his own digital soundscape mixer. wanted to keep rme and use the adats but the adat ibox version will take till november so i decided for this package. now i have 24i/o which sound a lot better than my rme and all for a really nice price.just a little more than my rme setup. all you have to get is a lot sub-d cable for all i/o. sound is very neutral. the side-signal is a lot stronger. can recommend this box a lot. use it with sx.perfect integration. cheers
