Protools Controllers.....

I've been working on a controller surface this week and have to say the #1 reason i personally don't enjoy it.

#1..... Why the hell is everything abbreviated??? it's 2008..... can we move beyond 6 characters in the display please!!!!!! are LCD's expensive or something?
a Jitterbug cell phone offers more display info.
it's hard enough trying to figure myself out..... forget somebody else's abbreviated mumbo jumbo...........

I understand that the code written for PT has to be changed........ So did this happen in PT8???????

I agree. Makie makes a good controller for DAWs and it has LED's.

Seriously?

Cost effects everything that companies do.

You wanna throw cell phone displays at a controller, knock yourself out. No one will stop you.

My #1 problem with digi controllers, can't believe they haven't figured this out! Procontrol had 8 characters, why did they go down to 6 on all their new controllers including the Icon! I want a spill over mode at least, where you press a button on that channel and the full name spills over into the next scribble strip, they can definitely do this since there is spill over for plugin assignments on the Icon.

How many characters do the LEDs on the SSL 4000 and Neve 8058's have? Does the API Legacy have more or less than those?

6 characters are more than sufficient for pop and rock
I guess no one will know what you mean if you just write KICK and leave -drum...

Peter,

The HUI you sold me a few years ago only had 4 characters, Dig has improved 50%!!

That will cause a lot of confusion; it could also mean:
Kick-ass triangle track!

yes, but the way that Digi does thier abbreviations it would show up as KCKSTR.

Adding OLEDs to thier contrllers would add a huge cost to the controllers.

good thing about a console is when you label a channel, channels do not move like a control surface..... my console has 48 faders with a plastic scribble strip (i use grease pencil).

I just figure, since you can have 31 characters in the file name, why not have more displayed..... seems like it would make it quite a bit easier to navigate.

If you guys want to stay with 6 and deal with it, cool....... i assume you did not upgrade your star-tac cell phone either.... (thats a joke.... no flames please)

There'd certainly be a tradeoff between the number and size of the characters displayed...don't know if it would be helpful to have more characters shown if they're harder to read...

I'm sure that expanding the 1" square for the LED wouldnt be an objection to most people.
I can't imagine any reason why anyone would want anything less than what they type in as the track name to be displayed exactly as i typed it.

Sure if you type 'Kick" its not gonna effect you........ but if you type "AC 12 Str Capo 1"

Anyways, people are gonna argue no matter what........ go ahead and live with 6 characters....... many of us would like to upgrade with the times.
