Scott - like many others I just wanted to say thanks for stepping into this forum and thanks for your videos. I'll watch them many times I'm sure. I am a TV/Film composer and I've been waiting for years for the midi/score features. I am currently sequencing in DP and mixing into PT because the midi in PT was never adequate for what I do. I'm really hoping that has all changed. Plus the score editing is essential for me as well. So my great hope is to do everything on one computer, on one app. I'm sure there are many others in the same boat.

There's something I've always wanted to do in PT and have never been able to figure out how to do it. Perhaps you could tell me if it's possible. The best name I've come up with is "relative zero". The idea is to be able to have the min:sec clock start at 0:00.00 wherever I want. IOW, if my music starts at 0/3/000 I'd like to be able to have the min:sec clock start at zero at that point, Part of what I do involves editing music to different precise lengths and I prefer to edit in bars:beats. This is easily done in Performer and probably others as well.

Anyway, thanks again.

Danny

Scott thank for your time !
Everybody here appreciate it!

Can you please tell me about the MIDI Learn implementation in PT8?
From what I see you can have MIDI Learn only from A.I.R Instruments ?

From what really depends to have full MIDI Learn capabilities ? EX: Ableton Live?

Hi World Studio and terminal3,

I get ya,' I have a tendency to increase the scope of feature requests :-) I do understand how just having the ability to open multiple AudioSuite windows would be helpful, even if they are "chained" together like a processing macro. I just went to thinking about how that could be combined with a separate "undoable" AudioSuite "stack," Where you are creating chains of AudioSuite processes that could done in one go, with any step "undone" in the sequence.

So, the simple thing of having windows open (without any kind of relationship to one another) is duly noted :-)

Cheers,
Scott

We'll never hold that against you, as long as we still get what we're looking for in the first place eventually!

Thanks for listening and, thanks in advance for implementing!

Hi bigdog,

You're not alone in that request. We call that "multiple bar 1's" around here :-) It's not a trivial feature (e.g. it's a fair amount of work), however one that I know is especially useful when composing music for picture, so it's important.

Currently in Pro Tools, we only have one timeline that goes from left to right without any ability to "reset" it. You can move the Song Start marker which is a red diamond in the Tempo ruler so that you can at least drag that out to where you want bar 1 to start (but again, just one of them).

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Amiel,

There hasn't been any changes to MIDI Learn in Pro Tools 8. Currently all of our AIR instruments let you right-click, choose Learn and then wiggle the knob on your MIDI controller. To control the mixer and transport, you would still need to use a Digidesign control surface, or one that supports HUI.

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott,

it's really cool to be able to talk directly to someone involved in the development of protools.

I don't use a digidesign controller as I use an analogue console, so I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts and have some controllers where I can assign a certain keyboard shortcut to a button.

One of my major gripes, though, is that there seems to be no keystroke for making new playlists.
I understand that you'd need a way to let the software know WHICH tracks to make new playlists for, so I say make a keystroke for duplicating the playlist of (a) selected track(s), one for making a new one and maybe have a preference checkbox to toggle on and off whether you want that to affect just the selected track or also the other tracks in active groups it may belong to.
This would dramatically speed up my workflow and put less strain on my arm because I don't have to reach for the mouse that often.

Also, it would eliminate the need for me to get up from behind my instruments in the live room and walk over to the control every time I feel I should make a new playlist.

I'm sure there will be countless of other people really happy w/ a shortcut for making playlists.

and uhm... I am a bit behind on versions on my PT rigs (7, 6 and even 5 rigs), so if it has since v7 been implemented, I 've said nothing

thanks for being here!

Hi Scott, lot's of cool stuff in PT 8, here are some of my feature requests for the next update of protools.

1. When you graphically trim a selected region in automation mode that has data (automation dots) in it, I would like the selected area edges to fully trim straight up and down without the dreaded ramp to the first and last automation point. Let's say you have a lead vocal chorus with automation already written and you want to bring it down 1 Db. I want to bring down the entire chorus 1 Db, not have it ramp down to the first automation point and than ramp up from the last automation point which is what happens now. It would be great to have a user selectable time for ramp in and ramp out.

2. Icon scribble strips at 6 characters for track names is the biggest flaw on the Icon. To get around this, we need to be able to press a button on the controller track and have the full track name momentarily spill over into the next scribble strip.

3. When you select or solo a track on the Icon, I would like to see the level meters in the meter bridge turn a different color, so it is easier to set your input levels when adjusting your outboard gear from a distance. Right now it is hard to tell which meter to look at since they are packed close to each other.

Scott, you've got balls coming on here...lol. I am a long time Digi customer, and you guys definitely need to be doing things like this to personalize the company.

Love the vids...way better than the ones on DigiTV if you ask me.

Will you be doing a video on all of the new plugs/VIs that come with PT8?

That way I could leave a Gain window open for example, as I'm working my way through a dialogue recording and use it where necessary. Sometimes a track will come back to a clip I've previously had to process with Gain and I'll need to do the same for the new clip, but I've already long since closed the AS window - it would be great if I could just leave it in the BG, then once I click on it it would become the "active" AS plug-in. I could keep a bunch of stuff that gets regularly referred to open that way and have all the settings retained for very quick "recall" - does that make sense?
What he said. This was actually what I meant, just to be able to have several windows open at the same time. You would only be able to press the apply button in the active window anyway. But, hell yeah, if you could chain AS plugins in a bigger window, that'd be nice too. They could shuffle so the order they are in from top to bottom is the order in which they are executed. Simple to say - hrder to implement, I am sure. :-)

I know there is a way already to do this. It has been in since v6 if I remember correctly, maybe even earlier. I remember it either has something to do with session offset or defining where the beat is. Not at a system now, so I can't tell you.

Since we're now requesting features in this thread...

PLEASE make some EuCon Artist support... or at least improve HUI...
