Sounds strange, but it comes in handy. My sub (an Adam) is tucked away where I can't get at the controls very easily. The remote does the trick. Adjusts crossover point and volume.

I imagine you can with a press of a botton turn off\bypass the sub and the crossover filter and get your monitors back in full range (no highpass filter) mode again.

This is very handy IMO.

Also tuning the crossover point using the remote means you can just sit comfortably in your mix possition and tweak untill you hit the spot instead of having to crowl down to make adjustments.

All it says is that it's designed for the A5s. Does anyone have any idea how one of these would work with my pair of A7s?

I assume when you adjust the volume that affects the speakers as well as the sub? That would indeed by handy...

I don't see any specs on it, but since the A5s are smaller and less powerful than the A7s I'd guess that when you got to a certain volume level the sub probably wouldn't help out too much...I'd imagine that the "7" in the name indicates the size of the speaker, so it's probably about the same size as the woofers in the A7s...

I don't think the mains have motorized volume pots. Remote volume would only be for the sub.

Take into considiration that the cabinet design in the A7 is design for full range, while the cabinet design in the sub7 is design for low freq. production efficiancy and much higher SPL level capabilities. (whats the RMS power of this sub anyhow?)

It would probably work just fine. The trick is to calibrate the sub and the monitors in terms of level, placement and crossover frequency.

I have a pair of ADAM A5 in the studio right now and I must say that, considering the price and size, I'm very impressed with the sound. Haven't got the Sub7 yet, but as soon as I able to get one for testing I will let you know how it works, ok.

My first reaction is that I like the sound of the A5's more that for example the Genelec 8020 which are priced almost the same. The A5's have an extended basresponse, probably because of their size and I like the detailed midrange and treble.

I never thought that I would say this, but those ribbon tweeters are rather nice.

Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Cheers
Frederick

I also own a pair of A5s at home for use on my desk. I'm still waiting for the matching stands and ill get the sub 7 once its released ( following the A5s release schedule and dealer dates i'll guess it will be early-mid august ).
I love them so far. Placing speakers on a desk with a screen in the middle introduces lot's of colorations and reflections so i didnt want to go overboard ($$$ wise) with speakers for such a listening place. The ADAMs meet at a perfect middle of price/perfomance/size ratio in my opinion.
Using these on real speaker stands and getting the distance up to 1,5m-2m is no problem either, they will scale up really well and sound very uncolored (for a 5" speaker).

I also prefer them over the Genelec 8020 which i compared them to but the 8020 only features a 4" woofer which rolls of from 66hz down if i remember right so thats a bit of an unfair comparison.

According to ADAM the Sub 8 and Sub 7 feature the same electronics but only differ in woofer size and design. I guess the sub 7 will integrate just as well with the A7 but you'll loose 2-3hz and probably limit the overall volume a tiny little bit.
