| Yep, it's a real bass trap. I didn't mention it here because it's more of a "home" product. We also have two other "spouse friendly" products to announce very soon, but one will appeal to studio types too. So I'll post that here soon. --Ethan

| Lives for gear | Nice. should have came out before I picked up a few plastic plants from Walmart and replaced the foam stuffing with 703. And at the time I really thought it was a crazy idea.does it diffuse the sound of the droppings?? |

| a planter stuffed with 703 for 200 bucks? you've got to be kidding. i'm sorry ethan, but, to me at least, this drags your previously noble / lofty intentions down. seriously, are you taking the piss?

| I also saw a small living room table offered by one of the Acoustic product companies. Im thinking about builting a cylindrical absorber with a solid wood top for the living room and put some flowers in a vaz on top of it , kick the plant off and use it as a gobo when needed. ![]()

| Lives for gear | 9 db of reduction, from what it looks like 6 db up @ 80 and 140 and 2 down at 160.....all for the low price of $800. I'm not trying to discount the product, but that seems VERY expensive this amount of improvement. I like the idea of buying planters at WalMart for $20 and stuffing them with foam and 703. Probably cost $100 for 4. |

| Well, I like it. But it would all depend on the quality of the silk plant. Some really good silk plants are very expensive. You should also look into doing taller tree type silk plants for diffusion. |

| Guys, Just to be clear, this is a very large planter (two feet tall) that costs much more than $20 at Wal-mart. It's also aimed for the hi-fi market, where it's often impossible to have any visible bass trapping due to spouse concerns. The only other products that aim for stealth corner trapping are nowhere near as effective. Here's a perfect example of "corner traps" that are literally the size and shape of a teenage girl's bikini bottom, plus a very narrow fabric strip, at similar prices: e i g h t h n e r v e I have $100 that says four corners treated with these will make no measurable improvement at all. ![]() --Ethan

| Heh. ![]() A lot of people don't understand the economy of manufacturing. Especially now that so much stuff is made in China and sells cheap here. Our profit margin is much lower than usual for manufacturing. We're lucky to get 50 percent after the cost of materials, labor salaries, rent, heat and air conditioning, phone, employee insurance, boxes and packing materials, advertising, and all the rest. Versus 3x or 4x that's more typical for mass-produced stuff like tape measures and soda bottles. I just bought a small diaphragm Nady microphone to test its suitability for room measuring. I paid $40 at the local music store. Now, I'm sure it was made in China, but think about how many people made a profit along the way. In order for my local music store to make enough to be worthwhile they probably paid the distributor half, or $20. And the distributor probably paid half of that if not less. This doesn't even include the cost of shipping. If the Chinese factory got more than $5 I'd be surprised. ![]() It's not like that for stuff made in the USA. ![]() --Ethan

RealTraps - Planter Traps A 9 dB improvement is pretty impressive IMO for only four small bass traps. Again, studio people like the Gearslutz crowd will do even better with our conventional bass trap products. For when the wife says "No way" to large bass trap panels, our Planter bass traps are a lot better than doing nothing. --Ethan

I remember a several years ago I asked(or made a statement) like "why dont someone just mod the Digi-001" and folks thought I was extremely crazy. Now look at Black Lion Audio. ![]() I do have a design idea for a new type of panel trap. But I'm going to talk to a studio designer I met here in Dallas. | |
