Waves SSL G Series

This is a rumor of course, but I'm thinking there's some validity to it.

A fellow GS'r was talking to Waves about re'wuping and found out that there's a G Series channel to come with 6.0 waveshell.

Waves SSL Authorization On An Intel

As an avid SSL user I think this is AWESOME!!!!

Don't we already have a G-Channel EQ? Also, the G-Buss? I guess that means the G-Compressor by itself?

I just got Waves SSL, (ebay $499!). I would be so stoked if they came out with a G Channel as I loooove the E Channel.

Same exact layout. Anyone know what the sonic differences in the console are? I'd actually like it if they just redid the E-Channel and did it even better. ( I love the EChannel)

Functionally, the main difference is the x 3 / 3 button instead of the bell on the high and low (which is why everyone hated the G EQ in the console ).

Shouldn't be too much different... it's essentially the same circuit, but a different VCA... they will work very similar. I am only speaking about the actual consoles, though.

So will the SSL Bundle cost more now for new buyers with these added plugs?

I've been eyeing these for a couple weeks but have been scared from the various
WUP horror stories. The new ilok.com support looks encouraging now though.

I was led to believe that the E Series channels with the black EQ - which the Waves E-Channel models - used the same VCA as the G Series EQ for the dynamics section, the dbx or THAT corp 2151. The earlier E Series channels with the brown EQ used the 1537A VCA for the dynamic section. It's my understanding that the change of VCA in the dynamics section occurred before the change from brown to black EQ. Therefore, both the E and G Channels from Waves should model the dynamics section with the 2151 VCA.

There were so many revisions to E and G consoles, it's tough to say what had what... It could be one of multiple different VCA's, including the 2001, and 2151, along with the 202, etc. We would really need to know the specific consoles they modeled to say for sure.

It's funny... I sold these consoles for years and no one ever cared about the VCA's.

Just got the SSL-G for free inside the Waves 6.0 ( i love my WUP!).

It's very different from the SSL E-Channel.

Sounds great!

I really, really like the G Channel. I think it is more what I was looking for when I was turning to the E. Very nice to have both!

I did a couple of A/B tests (of exact settings) yesterday between the E & G. The G sounds heftier, and more full and a bit smoother. The E sounds lighter in the bottom end, and has a more upper midrange emphasis.

I was reliably informed that the dBx 2001 and 202 VCA's were only ever used for the channel fader, not for the dynamics section. I could have been misinformed though.
