Vintagedesign release two new D-series units

Vintagedesign release two new D-series units, the M87 preamp and the EQ73.
M87 has the same pre/outputsection as the just released ProPack.
EQ73 has the same EQ-section as found in the CA73mk2, no more no less. It's made to be used inserted in the M73, M87 or DMP. Two EQ73 will also be perfect for those who wish to compliment their DMP with an EQ.
A rackshelf is also made to hold two D-series units.
More info at vintagedesign

Very nice units!

I have been demoing a DMPmk2 the last 2 weeks, I returned it just yesterday to Helios so they could show it at AES ; ) It's a very smooth and fat preamp, great on vocals, guitars and as a DI for synths.

Tekay, you state here that this new small eq is made to be inserted on the DMP but I am sure it would also work as an insert with other gear like a Great River or a console right?

Congrats on the new products.

Hi Tommy!
EQ73D is unbalanced and made to be inserted in a unit with workinglevel around -18dB to keep the headroom high. Should work fine with a Great River pre and other gear as long as the level is around -18dB.

I've been looking to get some 73 units (hopefully pre and EQ). Damn you TK! Now I don't know if I should get the rack units, the D's or the R's

BTW, any news on your other product line?

Hi Tommy,

I want this pre as well, just because of the fact Vintage design is using Carnhill St Ives transformers.
Golden age had the new strip at the Musikmesse on their booth bu I couldn't test it.
Have you experience with the CL1MK2 compressor too.
There is a threat here arround with a demo from Sara Dahlgren.
I think they removed it now but this was realy outstanding.
They had recorded it through a Neumann and this creates chicken skin from you nose to your feet.
Unfortunately our euro is a little bit high comparing to the dollar.

greetz,

Paul

Thanks, you know you make it indeed hard to decide wether I should pick a DMP with an EQ, CA37 or a Propack now!

Hi Paul,

I think you will like it too, it's less hyped (rustiger) than a 1073dpa wich I use on occasion. I have not experienced the CL1 compressor (yet) But wonder about it.
Regarding the prices, I believe the DMPmk2 sells for around 1750 Euros wich is very fair, it's actually a steal compared to what you pay for the so called "real" neve stuff.

Cheers,

A D-series compressor is also on the way, it's more or less a C1 with some of the switches changed to potentiometers instead.

More 500-slots units are also under construction.......

Hi Tekay

How do I go about arranging a demo on a CA73 MKK II in the UK?

I was trying to arrange this a while back. Your site has no contact number other than listed dealers. You have no dealer in the UK?

Please advice.

Don't be fooled by this. Even BAE use Carnhill transformers, and yet their preamp sounds different to the AMS Neve re-issues. I prefer the latter to be totally honest but ymmv.

I asked someone at a booth today were there was a vintech audio X73i.
Now what he could tell me was, and I think that it is a fair explenation, that Neve is the only company that uses the original transformers.
Someone on the booth from digital audio service last musicmesse told me that BEA has got a certain agreement about getting a spin off from Carnhill.
The other companies such as Vintech made a clone that comes close to the original.
That can result in a perfect sound that is near Neve and will be a little bit more payable.

greetz,

Paul

Contact UK ProAudio they are the UK distributor. If they can't help you contact Golden Age Music as they are handling all the distribution.

Code:
Neve is the only company that uses the original transformers.
If we're talking about the original output-transformer there is no such thing as the original thing anymore as Marinair doesn't excist anymore. Carnhill uses the same lams and bobin as the old ones so it's more up to winding it in the right way.
Carnhill (St' Ives) made input-transformers to Neve in the old days too and are still making them but they was not and are still not the exact same as the old Marinairs, and again, it's how the windings are layed out. But who cares as long as you like the sound?
I'm using my custom version, BAE are using their version, AMS-Neve are their version.....

Paul! If you're still at AES at Monday or Tuesday? come visit, I'm in the Helios booth!

Cheers
