The Beatles preamp/Sound Pictues Studio 2 reissue

The Studio 2 is $1699. You can contact me privately if your are interested in owning one. Audio clip and pictures below.

))

Update:

I intended to sell the Studio 2 to raise money for a family member. That's what led me to offering it right here.

The harassment by a certain builder and his constituents has been anything but fun. But at least everyone will have MY take on the circuit, which is extremely close to the original Redd.47.
Update 2:
Here's a summary of my experiences the past week or two:

For weeks I have been fielding legitimate inquires from those "toying" with me, to see if I would make them a replica of the Revolution preamp. These people are friends of John Hinson. It seems a group has gathered from another forum and thought it was in their best interest to harass me, demand proof of whatever, and then accuse me of things I did not do and did not say. Some of the ridiculous requests I had were, "I want six preamps done exactly like the Revolution preamp." Which is silly, and slightly paranoid "investigation" work on the part of Hinson and/or friends. Or, "I want everything like Hinson, but I want you to make it".

This sort of thing kept up over time, and then the attacks on this forum started. Which is why a lot of it is deleted posts by me. I just about gave up on Gearslutz, not totally realizing that these were the same friends of John. Meanwhile, I fielded even more p.m's and emails, always with a legitimate response, and never accused anyone of "stringing me along" even though I had strong suspicion they were John and his friends. And most importantly, I never offered anyone a "clone of Hinson's preamp". It seems friends of John Hinson, including one Recording the Beatles Book author, and whatever John's new company is, along with this entourage's local forum hangout, wanted to paint me as a thief of his work. Which is funny. If I'm going to steal anything, wouldn't most people want it to be the ideas from the creators of the original EMI unit, the Redd.47.

So these people are now in this thread. And the nastiness continues.

But I don't have time for these things, especially when now is a time I need to spend more quality time with family than ever. So if you have a question it might be better to ask it privately and avoid the crowd that has surfaced in the latter part of this thread.

Sometimes you try to do a good thing in this world and it just falls apart. But you have to pick yourself up, shake the dust off, and say, "what's next."

Thanks again and Best regards;
Jake

Here's a quick mix sample. Vocals and guitar (wait for chorus). Sound like the real deal? Excuse the lame vocals.

The verse is filtered right? The chorus sounds nice. I can't find anything about this pre. Where'd you get it?

I am over in Rockwall east of Dallas!

Send me a PM or an email.
We can exchange phone numbers.

I build and restore gear, so I'd like to see what you did.
I am not in the middle of any recording because I am re-capping my MCI 538C.
I will be mixing two large scale projects in the next month or so.

I was joking about the music.
It is pretty "out there" (but you knew that!)

send me an email or PM

Don't know if this pre would be for the stuff I work on but it sure sounds real good.
Just listened with Audio Technica ATH-M50 cans and in the chorus the vocal sounded like it was right inside my head. Personal and musical. Very nice.

Hello Jake,
Are there other options available?
I'd be specifically interested in having a stepped (2dB) input attenuator to match some other REDD47 pre's I have. Any ideas what it would cost to include such a thing?
Thanks,
David.

Edit: Crap! Meant to send this as a PM. Oh well, I'll leave it here in case someone else is interested in the same thing.

So you've stolen John Hinson's designs. That should keep some intellectual property lawyer busy for a whlie. Good luck.

Hang on here. In a previous post (that I would quote, but you've pulled it), you said (paraphrasing) "why spend $3000 when you can buy mine, same parts but different attenuator."

As for my "association with another builder", yes, I do own one of John's preamps and I am sick to the teeth with DIY guys stealing other people's hard work just because they don't have enough talent to come up with their own. It's the WORST part of the internet.

Is it the same design or not?

Is it the same custom Cinemag TX's that John spec'd in the first place or not? I guess I can just ask Tom or Dave at Cinemag.

Unfortunately not everyone had the same pleasant experience with Hinson...

I am thrilled to have two Studio 2's....was fine selling the Revolution preamp after a lot of a/b.

I would think that would make the client happy, in that Cinemag is known for amazing quality. Many designers have a preference for them. And I'm ordering them with custom content and achieving great headroom. As I said, there are no compromises in my circuit, and all parts are chosen for the highest quality. For the transformers, that quality was found with Cinemag.
Dude.

Hovland, Mills, Caddock, and Vishay?

When I look inside my Hinson built Redd 47, that's what I see. AND your tube choices. EVEN the knobs!!!

I can think of 3 pro audio mic preamps that use Hovlands: Marquette/Mercury's M-72 (another Hinson design), Hinson's Redd 47 and YOUR'S. Co-incidence?

And I thought you were "bowing out of this thread". Why not just admit it so we can get down to the business of discussing the differences between them? What kind of power supply and what are the components? Why no input attenuator? What documentation do you have that authenticates this as a Redd 47 design?

And Mr Smack 12? At least he's not some anonymous jerk taking potshots at people from behind a rock.

So, you bought one and didn't get it or you have one that you have compared to this unit from "ReallyJake"?

It took forever to receive...8 months and thought I wouldn't receive it at all.

I also compared the two extensively. As I said already. Preferred the Studio 2 for more depth. Three weeks is all I waited.

Some things would be nice to have cleared up - rather than be evasive.

Looks bad here for "Jake" though... as all these deleted posts are suspicious - could they ALL have been about pricing? Evidently not - as the ones about transformer claims (nothing weird there) were pulled too?

I did some research into this - the "Smack" poster is actually named Zack and has never bought a Revolution preamp - so how can he be selling his? Or the claims to have waited 8 months.

Via Cinemag: this "Jake" DID in fact contact Cinemag and want the transformers Hinson was using, thereby making his claim the he designed them less than honorable. Well...

... and Jake has been on many DIY threads asking about Hinson's work and execution of this pre over the last year or so. Looks bad, is all I'm saying. If it wasn't claimed to be original work but a cheaper copy of someone else's I wouldn't have such an issue with this.
